It did sit for three months without running while waiting for the new head to be done. Changed the oil and filter. I will check all the above. It is like what else. Thanks, everyone. Blue
So now the motor is back together and fired it up. The hydraulic lifters rattled a little then quitted down. It seems to shutter back and forth. Like a rough ideal but it take fuel and rpms go up but when letting off at idle again it starts to shake some. I don't remember it doing this before...
Update. Got the shift handle out by putting a 20 thou. feeler gage on both sides then got my slide hammer and gave it a few taps and it came right out. Thanks for the info. Blue.
So, update. Now having a problem with getting my shift handle out of the hurst mechanism. It is the old style with the pinch plates to hold the handle in. Tried the feeler gauge down by the handle on the drives side but it just does not come out. Any help is appreciated.
Must apply sealer on the head and China wall where the hold down bars are. Put Teflon pipe dope on your manifold bolts. U Tube the valley pan and intake in stall. There is a good video of doing this. Must run sealer in the crack at the head and hold down area of the block and go up the head...
OOP'S. Sorry did not mention the console. My bad. It is an old age thing, I guess. Fixing to tackle it as soon as the motor is all back together after replacing the driver's side head that had a crack developed below the exhaust manifold. Pulled both head so I could paint the shock towers...
So, need to get my A833 trans. out of my 69 roadrunner to seal replacement. Question is will I have to pull the shifter out of the car or can I just unbolt it from the trannie and work the trans. past it.
Did not bother to even look. Just asked how much they took off the head and came home and started to put it all together and put it on. There are not that many machine shops out there anymore that work on our old stuff.
About 11 hundred. OUCH that hurt. Plus, the cost of head gaskets/intake and exhaust. That is separate. At least the shock towers are repainted and no blister spots where the paint let go from the primer. Still not that much room to get a touch up gun in the passenger side even with the head off...
Ok update. Got the head back and those guys did not swap all my exhaust manifold studs or put the valve cover studs in form the other head. Would not recommend them to any one after spending that much money. Now pulled the other head so I could paint the shock tower and noticed the head gasket...
Running AC Delco and quite happy with them. Would run the same type that are in the motor. No clearance issues. They worked. Yes, would put new ones in will run better with new plugs.
No porting standard head. 906. Asked if we could use my valves and springs. They were all new. Trying to save on cost. Requested new unleaded seats to be replaced also. They will run a mild surf on the head about one thou. on the mill they told me. The head came off a running car. But that don't...
It is getting harder and harder to find shops that work on this old motor we have. I checked the head with a straight edge, and it looked good. Still, he says going to mill thou. off it and he does that with every head he gets. Hope this does not give me a problem with my half dome pistons in...
Took my cracked head to the Cylinder head shop. Also took them a replacement to be done over. Figured he could use my valves and springs off the old head that only has 4500 miles on them. Left him 288 dollars. Then I get a call it will cost and additional 688 dollars to have the other head done...
This depends on how deep your pockets are. If you want to drive it now the rebuild the 727 would be the cheapest way. If you change to a four speed or some kind of combo like a five speed, then there is a lot of work ahead and parts to buy. New torque converter and a rebuild of your trannie...
This sounds like a jetting problem in the carb. Mine did the same thing and found that I had to lower my primary jets a few numbers. I was watching the tv show where they went to Australia. The fuel was different than here in the USA so had to run a richer mixture so their car would run on it...
Hey Kern Dog. Keep us informed on the swap and how things go. Will it be in a console car or floor shift. Thinking of doing something like this to my Runner.
