My thinking exactly. I was advised to change the condenser way back when I owned my 64 Belvedere with a 440. Thing needed constant foot on the pedal, and it was “flaky”. I sort of scoffed, but they’re cheap, and I never had a problem after that. Smooth as silk!
I agree. I heard no talk of trying to turn it over by hand, no compression check if it turns over, nothing but speculation. Most of the time, you can get these old Mopars to fire back up and run even if it’s been seriously treated bad. I also agree, don’t give up, and don’t start spending money...
I wouldn’t think another thing about it. You said it’s a happily running car, it’s telling you everything is alright, I would listen to it. Nothing you have is out of line with any daily driven car of the era. Drive like the wind, Bullseye!
The original owner used to tow his buddies dragster to Milan back in the day. I asked him if he ever ran the Roadrunner, he said only once because it was his daily driver and he couldn’t afford not to make it to work on Monday. Bonus tho, he won his class!
Just like Ma made her, and the Commando as well. Except for the plug wires, Rick Gorski had a sale in them for $25 a set, I couldn’t pass up that deal, so I bought 4 sets. Now I put that **** on everything!

There is no need to adjust the endplay with green bearings, but you do have to remove the thrust button from the center section on most axles using green bearings.
Inquiring minds would like to know….what worked here to get it out? I see you undoubtably used heat, but please walk us through what worked and what didn’t.
Just hot enough to melt the candle, but it needs to melt the candle to the touch. Which really isnt that hot but it might darken the paint, which I think might be inevitable unless you go with the above mentioned penetrating oil.
If it’s a points distributor, change the condenser under the cap. If you don’t have an old one lying around, message member “halifaxhops” and have him send you one. I’ll bet it fires with a different condenser.
Change those flange gaskets between the manifold and pipe while you’re down there. They seem to blow out far too often, and I always have a couple sets on hand for that very reason.
If everything checks out, I would hone it and put it back together. If the mismatched heads bug you, change them. Although, all big block cast iron heads are pretty much the same, so it’s probably not an issue.
Yea, you’re gonna need to go through that car before adding anything close to 500hp. Brakes, suspension, rear end, trans, frame connectors, leaf springs, all things that will help you make your setup a complete package. It’s one thing to have a 500hp motor, it’s another thing completely to...
