I’m installing the firewall insulation. I’m trying to figure out the correct orientation for the small piece left of the steering column. It also has a perforated cut out area, not sure if I leave it or not. Holding it against the wall there are several ways it could go.
see the little white plastic spiral gear, that's what you will find failed in your unit. With patience and a few small tools you can remove and replace just that gear, you will get your experience when you remove the used part before you touch the original speedo.

Replacing a carpet in a 67 GTX. In the front does the carpet go under the gas pedal bracket that bolts to firewall and toe board or is the carpet just cut around?
Same question on the bracket that supports the column under or just lays on top of?
