I do not know the standard mufflers that come w the TTI 3" full exhaust, but on my 496" w H pipe, it is quiet and I have no drone at all. Could have to do w me having H as apposed to X and 3" compared to 2.5". But I like my mufflers.
I used it on my TTI headers. I really liked the raw steel look next to the painted engine so I had them done in a silver that was very close. For me w cast iron exhaust manifolds next to Hemi orange, I'd go w a gray that's as close to the cast color as possible.
My 383/496 w 610hp/670tq runs the TTI 2-1/8" stepped headers. No loss of bottom end at all. Scares me if I'm not careful. Issue is clearance, they are tight.
2.5 is the "Absolute" largest for even the most hotrodded 318. 2" maybe 2-1/4" and H pipe in the TTI and you will have all the flow you ever need, no drone and easy clearance.
I've got a '67 Coronet stroke 496 w TTI headers n 3" H pipe exhaust. I'm right at 600 hp. Super tight at gas tank. Rubber mallet work to the gas tank flanges. Took 5 hrs by myself w car over 1-1/2 feet up on Jack stands. Total PITA!!
Thank you for the recommendation. I had actually thought of using header glasspacks then to the mufflers before thinking about catalytics, but resonators would probably be very good too.
Thank you both for your replies. As for the exhaust, anything else I can do or not do? This car will have GV overdrive, Already have it, FiTech fuel injection already have it. It will "NEVER" see the drag strip. This was my great grandmothers car and I just really enjoy torque. It will be driven...
I'm thinking catalytic converters to keep smell down and to help keep highway drone down. Is there a reason you don't think they are necessary other than emissions laws?
Actually the cam I'm using is the XR 280HR roller cam. Should be very good bottom end in a 496. But thank you.
Already have...
I am building a 383 stroked to 496. It should be in the 650hp range and even more torque. All hp in by 5,200 rpm. Following this build, https://www.hotrod.com/articles/chrysler-383-big-block-mopar-for-the-masses/ , but 496 instead of 450 and roller cam. I am going to use TTI 2" stepped to 2-1/8"...
