I would leave it in its stock location and just redo the wiring. If it's a 340 I remember them being mounted to the intake on the passenger side of the engine next to the distributor.
Also ... do one gauge at a time. Once you get it working then if the problem occurs on subsequent gauges you'll have a point to begin detailed diagnostics.
