    440 starter causing grief. Help!

Also, after removing the Mr. Gasket, cleaning head and headers, reinstalling and still having a leak, I tried out a felpro and it did the trick. I wish the felpros had the “drop on slots” for the 2 outside bolts but it was worth the extra hassle.

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

I’ll check that insulator out. Thanks! The issue I had last fall (broken ring gear teeth) happened during a cold start though. Since I put everything back together, I’ve started the car at less than 9 degrees C (sorry don’t know F) and it started and choked quite well. I did increase the idle a...

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

Thanks fellas. I do recall an episode of Engine Masters where they tested hammered/dented header tubes and I believe they had little to no effect. I will go this route and see what happens.

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

There’s always something… I took those extensions off the starter and installed it and it fits beautifully! I then went to mock fit the headers and they weren’t lining up where they need to be. I crawled back under the car and realized they’re hitting the mini starter! I think it’s the part i...

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

Hi Fran. I’ve got to the point where im putting the starter on and I can see it’s not sitting flush. Is the plastic cover you mentioned what I have circled in the photo? I believe that is what is hitting the block but awfully tough to see. Does it just pop off?

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

I’m putting this rascally 727 back in the car. I have the 2 bottom bolts finger tight and my refurb mini starter cradled in the header tubes. However I just remembered about the starter plate. Will I be using it again with the new starter? Judging by the imprints on it, it goes between the bell...

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

I had removed the plastic clip that holds the cable to the bracket and it swung around. At that point I didn’t know about the pinch bolt (clamp) to take cable off.

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

Got the 727 down and out (sort of) of the charger and hit another road block. How does a guy get the shift cable off the trans? I took the little snap ring off the pivot point and wiggled the **** out of it but it won’t come out.

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

I appreciate the drawing, Don. I kinda figured that’s what you meant. However there is about a 3/8” gap between my oil pan and centre link. I may have to use a thick piece of steel or aluminum or even just ratchet strap it in place somehow.

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

Thanks, Fran. Yes I managed to get the 4 bolts out of the TC and gave one part a shot of paint. If I need to hold the back of the engine up, can I let it sag down a little bit to get at those bolts?

    440 starter causing grief. Help!

Hello again. I’ve been picking away at this trans removal for awhile now. I’ve been sick as a dog recently and also busy with work, family life, yada yada. Now everything is disconnected other than the bellhousing bolts. The trans cross member is still in but nuts are taken off. I got the 2...
