Today looking at my buddies 69 Charger it had one on the trunk. That's why I mentioned it. Not sure about the 66 though. It does seem it was different back there.
I believe the dash can go in and all other pieces (A-pillar, kick panels, door rubber seal, etc) go on afterwards. It's how they would have had to do it at the factory.
I pulled my 66 Coronet apart and I'm pretty darn sure it was the same as my A bodies. I would swear the tabs go inside the car and land on 2 (7/16 or 1/2" heads) bolts that go into the side of the structure of the car. I am away from home or I would shoot pics for you.
That particular piece was a cut off from the excess on the Sherman quarter patch sections. They were over sized for what I needed. It was flat piece so I bent it and shaped it and it's close enough for me. A lot of patches I make I cut pieces from an old hood I have here. The steel is rust free...
I repaired my Coronet. It's not professional, but hey it will work! Mine was fairly minor but with some patience, and acceptance that little is re-popped for these cars, I have managed to repair all my damaged areas. Oh, and welcome to FBBO.
Damn that sucks big time. It obviously is a manufacturing flaw. Perhaps with the call you made and the pics here showing the poor fitment, they will be willing to step up to the plate and compensate you somehow. I would hate to believe that "they" would take advantage of overseas sales. But who...
You got me thinking about a "new" dash pad I picked up a while back from a parts stash. It's for my '66 Coronet. I just measured the studs in question. They are 53 1/8" center to center. I don't think cutting the bolts will make you happy as the pad still will fall short of it's proper position...
These are mine. I'm sure you can find some closer.....but anyway......
