Being a 318 car doesn’t help in justifying the expense to do a project like this, IMO. If you have the time and expertise than that’s helpful. I happen to have a 4-door cousin of your car that came from Texarkana.
I found a discussion on molasses from 2010 on the AACA site link that has some members digging deep into how the solution/bacteria lives on rust, thus eliminating it.
;)Edit just added: in this article there was talk of a fellow digging a hole in the ground for a molasses bath of his whole car...
I’ve been using Ospho on some smaller items, a driveshaft for instance, and did wash/wiped it off before painting. It’s good to know how others are using it and your re-wetting technique on stored metal items I hadn’t considered or heard of but it makes sense. It’s a new product to me.
You...
I must have missed your last post and am wondering about the use of Ospho prior to you painting the hood.
I heard the Ospho needs to be washed off before painting and someone I know was told to use original Windex as a final prep before painting his car. After those steps his vehicle’s paint...
Which of these 3 types do you prefer?
The types of potting material that you can choose from are:
Epoxy Potting Compounds
Polyurethane Potting Compounds
Silicone Potting Compounds
I don’t have any experience with any potting compound but it seems interesting, @HALIFAXHOPS , for this here...
Conclusion: The fishing sticker is still strongly & strangely holding up, soaking it longer may have discolored it or brought minor rust back, the paint/galvanizing was loosed/bubbled some but that helped with scrubbing it off, it took most of the rust off the chrome latches.
All in all I’m...
A scrubbing pad was utilized to knock off the loose particles between soakings and what is the end result. Is the fishing sticker still attached?? What about the paint/galvanized coating, was that affected?
Stay tuned!
The chrome on the latches were in poor condition and the fishing patch certainly is a wild card, that’s the scientific description meaning “I don’t have a clue how the molasses will react to the glue and material of the sticker.”.
Here’s a look a few weeks later;)
As the...
Use masking tape to secure on and step back to see what looks good to you. Use a soapy water spray to help in positioning and a squeegee. You probably know that already. A member here may have some measurements for you as I’m not familiar with that but I like your idea.
Gosh that is a great...
That’s interesting that the trunk lid from the 4-dr had the cutouts. I’m assuming that you replaced your original lid with the ‘70 Belvedere trunk lid?
I’m seeing on the pictures that the Qt. Extension are the same. Some with trim holes.
My thoughts are on the ‘68 Coronets they are basically the same as yours. And as you mentioned there could be mounting holes for trim added or not. My main concern/question is about the ‘68 4-Dr comparison to the ‘68
R/T.
Looking at google photos now.
