I have read where you need to oil the lifter bores only, as assembly lube might prevent them from spinning..... Assembly lube on the lifter bottoms only and the cam....
Not just those but trillions of stock engines built that last alot of miles on stock cast pistons........
I plan on only doing this once and for how expensive everything is, upgrading to forged pistons is minimal.....
I had to file all of the piston rings in my last build, a 302 ford engine...
Its alot of work as you will spend time fitting each ring set to each hole multiple time.. Between each filing I had each ring in the solvent tank to remove any dirt or metal bits..... Lots of time and " putting on...
My stock 67 440 with its 915 heads did pretty well until I installed some " light " springs in the distributor, always an easy way to make your car run better.. It had forged pistons that the machine shop calced out to be around 9.4 to 1 cr....
I had to turn around and go directly back home...
I have run VR1 20-50 in my 440 since its rebuild and no problems.. Being in Florida the 20-50 is OK, but I have thought of finding a 10-40 or 15-40.... Sold the car so no longer have to make that decision..
