I have been at this a long time also. Don't claim to know much but when something appears to look stupid questions need to be asked and not just assume a replaceable tag is correct. To many crooks in this hobby willing to make anything and everything for a buck.
So you changed to a clutch fan and now it overheats. That should tell you something. Did the fan diameter, number of blades or distance from the radiator change?
I understand there is an A/C supplier in the valley that should be able to supply all that you may need. At one time this would have been as simple as going south of the border and having it filled with R12 and bringing it back.
Fans are worthless on the hyway. Only reason to have one is low speed travel. That 1/8" hole lets the trapped air out of the block. Remember the water cooled block. Not air cooled.
