Many years ago, when service stations actually pumped gas (I was one of the attendants), a guy came into the station with his old nearly derelict car. It was leaking brake fluid and needed to top up the master cylinder. I don't remember the exact price but the smallest bottle/can of brake fluid...
I have had DOT5 in my Charger for nearly 40 years with NO issues nor regrets. Stock Bendix 4 piston calipers. I did this for the paint protection, as Hemi car master cylinders are removed for engine maintenance occasionally. Mind you this system was completely new when filled. I also started...
I bought a set of Gabriel's about 3 years ago from Summit. When I opened the package to find "Chinesium" shocks, already leaking fluid and an upper mounting eye not even welded on correctly, a call to Summit was in order. They didn't even want them back, just refunded my money. I think my wife...
Don't buy the Gabriel Classics. Leaking Chinesium junk right out of the box. Summit didn't even want to pay for the return shipping. They just refunded my money and said turf them.
I have had DOT 5 fluid in my Charger since 1985. No issues. I initially used it to protect the paint when removing the master cylinder for the periodic valve lash adjustments. The fact that it is non-hydroscopic is a bonus.
Been about that long since I have seen one in Ontario as well. I had a '73 Chev C30 one ton pickup for my daily beater back then. Got roped into one of those MTO safety scams. My beater broke their brake tester and the MTO weenies were afraid of the 16.5" split rims, so I got a pass by default.
You need new pistons (I know, un-obtanium). The pitting is very bad in the seal groove. Does the vendor that sleeved them for you previously have SS pistons available?
All true with the caveat that the potential "moisture issue" is due to it being non-hydroscopic. In vehicles that sit for extended periods such as a museum piece, the atmospheric pressure changes allow condensation to collect and pool over time, causing corrosion in the low point pooled...
I used it way back then exactly for that reason. Owning a Hemi car that I actually drove, I was concerned about spilling brake fluid when the master cylinder was removed for engine maintenance, spark plugs, valve lash etc. Over the years, I have seen it bad mouthed for long term use because of...
I ordered a set of these for my Charger about a year back. Two of them were leaking oil right out of the box. The method of welding the eye on the fronts were pathetic Chinesium. When I called Summit to discuss the issues, I suggested they should not even sell these. They refunded my purchase...
Yes, as per FSM, you should check / adjust the worm shaft bearing adjustment first (a low range inch pound torque wrench (beam style) is required. Then proceed to the pitman shaft adjustment. If the worm shaft bearings are loose, any other adjustment will be moot.
Mine has been in there for nearly 40 years with no issues nor seepage. Also have used gear oil in quite a few others over the years. I'll have to check the '69 FSM. That is what I followed when I originally rebuilt mine.
Back in about 1981 when I dis-assembled mine as part of the Charger restoration, the factory spooge resembled pig lard. It had pushed away from some of the bearings causing them to fail. Fortunately back then all new rebuild parts could still be ordered from Ma Mopar. Not wanting a repeat of the...
A question for any forum members with this setup. I have just completed the extensive tune up that includes checking the valve lash. On an unmodified Hemi car, this requires removing the master cylinder / booster assembly for access. Every time I have completed this service, now for the 5th time...
I replaced mine with the Hemi B Body set from Mancini's, as well as the torsion bars. Big convenience for me is I can drive there and pick up my orders. I am happy with the results so far. The ride stance of my Charger R/T has been restored. Time will tell how they hold up.
Previously, when I...
You don't indicate if the replacement box was new or not. I did encounter a manual box once that displayed that cocked wheel. Come to find out that it had been in a wreck, although you couldn't tell, the pitman arm had been replace. The shaft was actually twisted slightly from the wreck causing...
