Is it possible that someone had cut it prior to you getting it? A "returned" gasket perhaps. I think that you should be able to pickup an inch in the straight-away's, but it should have came long. Return it and get the correct length. I've done two and had to trim both...bought mine from Jim at...

I think I may be off again. The center vertical support, between the upper and lower has two brackets that reach out to the grill to support it, I believe that those brackets are what you are showing. Mine are bent ever so slightly different, but mine is a Coronet

slight correction...with those brackets, it's the lower horizontal support mounts. I can't get in for a pic, because the grill is in the way
