If it rolled into a reputable shop they’d say buy a new motor which is what I’d do. I didn’t tell them I needed to keep the current motor. It’s not numbers matching.
The motor literally has like 200 miles on it. They were forged. Issue is apparently the head gaskets were toast from who knows why (this thing has sat for years after the motor was installed) and when they drained the oil they got a bunch of metal coming out and coolant.
Well, I can get an entirely new crate engine with all the accessories for $10k with at least all of the options. I'd have thought $1-2k for install on a crate.
This place was reusing my pistons and other parts, so I'd have thought $6-7k.
I'm getting quoted $10k to rebuild my existing engine and install it. I think that seems stupid high, but someone tell me otherwise. It's a 408 stroker currently, which got fraged by debris. I expect that they're reusing the heads, intake and accessories.
Yea. I’m not sure what they had in there from the shop. I got it to fire up and it was driving fine. It’s parked now, need to try to get it somewhere asap
Got my 73 back. Stroked 408 Small Block. It’s not been tuned, but I’m hearing a metallic ting sound fairly consistently—especially at idle. It seems to be from the motor. I hadn’t noticed it until today. Car sat out in the rain, under two covers, but some water pooled on the flat of the intake...
Yeah, I'd check the carb tuning. If it was recently rebuilt and you haven't dialed it in that will do it for sure. You can probably google around and find a good guide on tuning that carter.
Why the double pumper? I'd think you'd be doing better with a vac secondary carb. As I understand it, double pumpers are best for track cars or very light cars, but a 4150 style carb is the way to go for the street on our cars.
Also, I have to agree with 70-rrbrian, 750 is too much carb. I am...
Yeah, I think Big_Jim is right. He's just talking about the driveshaft end where the u-joint is located. Once it's cut to length, it will have to be rewelded and rebalanced.
Hey guys...
I need to get hold downs for my 360 heads with plain old rocker arms. Can anyone tell me if these will work? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DCC-5249712/
Again, I am using hydraulic flat tappet lifters with an Isky 270 megacam...
Does anyone know the correct pulleys for an AC/Powersteering small block? My pulleys seem to be incorrect. How many grooves do I need on the crank & wp pulleys?
