yep, any good quality in line filter will do. If you want to spend a couple extra bucks summit has some inline filters that can be taken apart and cleaned periodically. They work well also.

I am not sure how they come out, but I do know you should be very careful because they are not tempered safety glass like the windshield. they will shatter like you said, and they are expensive.....at least they are for my car......Could yo post a pic of your car, and what you are working on...
