Most cost effective transmission build for 600 or 700hp turbo drag car

5.7L hemis can be found for relatively affordable prices - even the 2009+ Eagle headed ones. For Transmission you can go with a built 727 with no OD to keep the price down - or you could even go with a dime-a-dozen GM 4L80E and have a huge aftermarket support and electronically controlled. While...

    Begging for attention

Nice! I ended up with the 9.3 compression so if I decide to ditch the blower it wouldn't be a complete slug.

Second Keyway = Check Scattershield = Check - will be running a factory bellhousing with the 4bbl setup but have a scattershield for when the blower goes on.

Same with my Polara... which is why I will most likely just leave it off - cant bring myself to cut a rust free hood

    Begging for attention

The compression ratio comes out to right at 9.33 and I plan on running a mild 6-8psi... so I have a pulley set up for about 7.27% overdrive to start - should be an anemic 5-6 psi but I can always go up from there.

    Begging for attention

Well guys I fail to make much progress on my 64 Polara - mostly due to the Russian thing, the Job thing, Corona thing... Anyway - Finally getting some small progress - got the 440 together and some induction mocked up. This was a 1969 440 block, forged crank, forged pistons, and nothing...

San Bernardino/Riverside County Machine Shop Recommendation

Just to put some skin in the game - I went through several local machine shops when I worked at the resto shop and we ended up working with TG's Performance now located in Gardena (too far for you guys but just putting him out there). He (Tony) has done no less than 30 engines over the years for...

    PAW superstock camshaft specs

I ran the 290/300 cam in a 440 back when they were still around - PAW was about a 30 minute drive from me - always fun going there.

    EFI conversion questions

EFI is overkill for most people... if your engine runs well as is then just keep the Carb... I am running an MS3X on my 68 Charger because I did a Gen III Hemi swap about 12 years ago and I just recently found the Holley Hemi Terminator but decided to keep pressing with the MS due to my...

    Ram 5.2 and 5.9

Did this in my 73 Challenger... Swapped the following. -Oil pan / pickup -Timing cover to "LA" style and used factory V-belt pulleys and water pump -Added camshaft snout for mechanical pump -Dual pattern intake manifold for LA or magnum heads -I kept the A-518 trans but if you went to a 727 or...

STICKER SHOCK!! Converting 68 B Body Auto to manual - NOT!!!

It is possible to do it a lot cheaper... but it takes time and patience. I have noticed parts prices have been going up over the last few years... I sourced everything to do my 4-speed swap in my 64 Polara and the prices were approximately listed below. 23 spline slipyoke 4-speed...

Don't swap in a modern engine or efi for driveability

I agree to a point... A properly tuned crab and distributor set up is almost as reliable as an EFI system - but the real difference is emissions and mileage that can be tuned into an EFI system... there are legitimate shortcomings to a carburetor when it comes to adaptability due to the...

    360 crate motor

The Crate 360 engines from MP came with the instructions shown above - I had to weld those weights onto my TC back when I put the MP360 300hp crate into my Charger... but I believe now you can get a magnum balanced flexplate

    Passon A-855 5 Spd Trans ?

I'm not knocking Passion Performance at all - I've worked with them before and with Brewers with no issues with either. I am, by all accounts, a scrooge when it comes to my cars and try to find the cheapest (not easiest) way of doing things. The 855 looks to be a great transmission - but $6K is...

    '70 318/2bbl buildup ideas?

I actually miss the stock 318 I had in my 68 years ago... I started with just swapping to a 3.55 gear set and it made the car a lot more fun - Maybe start there and see where you want to go after... the 2bbl is nice and simple but you won't lose anything by going to a small 4bbl... to...

    Over priced rebuild ?

I just had my 440 block gone through at my local shop... ended up being about $1700 for machine work... decking, bore, hone, mag-flux, clean, prep, paint, polish crank, balance rotating assembly, cut a 2nd keyway in the crank... $250 to assemble the shortblock (I just didnt want to deal...

    Port the RPM's or TF240

If you're going with the TF240s they should accept standard roller rockers... when you go to the TF270s I believe they require an offset rocker
