The schematic shows the alternator itself as grounded through the block. Did we also ensure there is a good engine-to-chassis, and battery-to-chassis ground connection? I hate to sound like a broken record because I've said it so many times here. But DC is a different animal than a/c. "If it...
383 has a point. My 95 Ram started doing that once I moved to the country, and was driving with hi-beams for extended periods. My solution was to install a relay to use the light switch to activate a relay for the hi-beams. And they were fed off the underhood harness, rather than going...
I have an electrical background, but I'm not an engineer. Heat, reduces lifespan and increases resistance. Distance, while cooler, increases resistance. Both of these can result in voltage-drop. The accounting departments requirements may have set the size of the coils wires. I am not smart...
In one of my cars with a kill-switch. I by-passed the kill switch with a #10 wire, and 30 amp fuse. This will provide power to accessories. radio memory, computer. But a starter draws 80 amps or more. Turn the key, and the fuse lifts.
As an electrician, 12 volt DC systems are a weird animal. DC tends to "backfeed", and give strange symptoms. My troubleshooting experience says this. "If it doesn't work, check power", "If it works weird, check grounds". This is sage advice for you. I recently had an 01 Sebring, that when...
That looks great, Onebad. Very neat application. For now, I make my wire looms out of tie-wraps. I use a medium one around all four, then I put the tiny ones around it between each wire.
Buddy, I looked EVERYWHERE for those, and had little luck. It is out there if you want to do a HID conversion [something I am planning to do], but as far as the old 5001/5006 style, no luck! I'm really surprised that they were that hard to find! I guess they've gone the way of the...
X2 on what he said! A great idea! I did this on my 95 Ram cause the constant use of hi-beams ,in the country where I live, runs too much current through the switch, and it would get hot and burn-out every few years. I rewired the lights with a fuse and a double-relay. Now, all my switch...
X2. Check grounds. I give this advice all the time. In DC, if it dont work, check power. If it works weird, check ground. I'm an electrician, and a ground problem with DC is one of the most frustrating things there is. Case in point, when you open the trunk of my 01 Sebring when the motor...
Yes, they come on, but do they come on on the hi element? Or are they just lit on the low element? In the flasher, there is a thermo-strip, that when enough current flows through it, it will bend and break the connection. And when cooled, will remake the connection. I'm guessing not enough...

I've wired industrial panels with miles of wire, ALL OF IT RED! Dont look at the pile. Just one wire at a time. A bag of tiny tie-wraps to loop it through for temporary routing helps. The big picture is overwhelming. The satisfaction of completing it will be worth it!
