I would be looking at a rebuild. Knocking could be wrist pins to rod bearings
Im in the process of redoing the block on mine. Heads are fresh. I figured the heads would correct the issue. In my case. No. Rebuild time.
Not hearing it run? Not knowing if it requires sleeves or a crank shaft, Rods etc.. Parts are not cheap. All that stuff adds up. There not cheap to build. But are cool when they are.
I dont think it matters. You can do almost anything you want to a 383 or 440. And still be happy with the outcome. As for values. It all depends on the model of car.
