I've heard the Mustang or some Ford float was interchangeable. I would think any float that will fit or is securely adaptable would work.
It's a pretty simple task: just needs to float on gasoline, right ?
Performer RPM, Holley 4150 carb & a dropped air cleaner base works fine on a '63 or '64 - I would think a '65 would be the same.
'65s could be had in production form with an RB; shouldn't be too hard.
I agree with the smaller carb - 750 vac sec - for this application. All a DP will do in this combo is wash the walls with fuel.
Not a fan of carb adapters either; but I do like T-quads.
I don't think it'd be an issue. Carb depends on usage & combo. For a rumpity 4-speed car I 'd probably use a DP, but an AT car or taller gears a vac secondary is arguably better.
Either way, an 850 will feed it on the street. A 750 or 780 will have a nice vac signal at lower RPM.
The outside of the Motorad cap looks correct, the other doesn't.
Wonder if a hole could be drilled sideways in the plastic so the spring doesn't matter.
Might pick one up as a spare; as my tanks are the later vented type, that vent issue shouldn't apply.
I've never had an issue from normal gas in a mild street engine like a 265 or whatever.
The high-CR engines get 110LL or 110 race fuel mixed in.
Been using Sta-Bil for many years, and the cars start & run fine even after a year or so of sitting.
There are at least a couple of carb supply places: one I've used is Allstate carb, in NY I think.
A rebuilder - like Harms Automotive, etc - will also know sources.
The repro CA332V is a bit taller than the OEM version, found that out myself, as I have the car's original filter.
Even trimming the raised beading around the filter, the AG lid just barely screws down.
Original AG assembly & wingnuts on the car.
The K&N filter fit better than the repro, but I...
Where's the timing set ? Every Mopar I've owned liked more initial timing, though not more than 36 total (mechanical).
And the "bigger" the cam, the more initial they liked. Dead stock, 10-12 degrees initial wakes 'em up.
Interesting. I went 2 steps leaner on the primary rods on the 650 AVS2 I put on my '68 car - a basically stock RR 383.
FWIW, I'm at 2600 ft elevation, weather is often like about 3000 ft DA.
Great carb, very responsive.
