Looks like your control must have been replaced with a 69-70 style. 68 was different in appearance but probably functioned the same. Dash panel is ribbed in 68.

For '68, all 440 cars came with a shroud. The automatics got the 22" with a 2 piece metal shroud. Upper #2417423, Lower #2417427.

The fan is pulling air towards the engine, correct?

A thin coat of black rtv on the core nipples before installing and no leaks, even with corbin clamps.

If you can find original engine bay photos of other cars like yours when they were new online, or a diagram in a fsm, that may be a good reference for getting it as close as possible. Personally I'd prefer them to be long and trim to fit your application.

Been using the Quanta cloth wrapped belts for years with no issues. They should have those that are date coded for '69 cars.

Depending on what kind of distributor you have, if you can limit the mechanical advance so you can have more initial timing, it may be beneficial with cooling. I have a restrictor plate in mine and set it at 18°/18° with no cooling issues.

What are your timing specs?

Have you checked Mancini?

Hard to believe for how widely they were used the 045 cores are pretty scarce.
