    Secondary water temp sensor location?

I also posted this on the general forum. We are wiring up the new aluminum radiator with electric fans on the 71 Charger 500. I know where the sensor by the water pump is, but I need another spot for the fan sensor. We found a plug on the rear of the intake manifold. Will that work or is the...

    Slap Stick shifter handle function?

We are getting close to being done with the 71 Charger 500. I went to check to make sure the trans was in N or Park and the thumb button was depressed and wouldn't pop out. I took it apart and I could depress the skinny rod inside the shift lever and change gears but I wondered what was wrong...

What does the air cleaner look like on a 1971 Charger 383?

We're getting down to the small stuff on the 1971 Charger 500. What did the air cleaner and the decal look like on the high-performance 383? There are a ton of pictures out there but what's correct?

Can you help me diagnose a starting problem?

The truck seems to start fine 99.9% of the time. Then it just doesn't. I took it to go get some food and was gone for 5 minutes then I came back and nothing. Just one click. I called a friend and he came to help jumpstart it and the best we could get was about 5 clicks. The volt meter said the...

The car loses power on the second pass.

We were running the 71 Challenger at the track today. It's just a 1/8 mile. It has a 408 stroker from BluePrint Engines. On The first pass, it does great. It was not a hot day. Maybe 80 degrees at the most. Coming around for the second pass we had to wait in line between 5 to 10 minutes. We...

The 1971 Charger is not starting.

This requires a bit of a backstory. Another car I had stored away is a 1971 Charger 500. 383 high performance. This whole thing has lasted over 10 years. I bought this car for about $2500 a long time ago. It had a 440 in it with a spun bearing. The purchase included the original 383 HP. I had...

Is a 904 to 727 hard to do?

I saw an Abody that was cheap but needed a new trans. If I did a new trans I would use a 727 as the car has a 318. Is it a hard swap? My skills are limited. I know I would need a new driveshaft and yoke. Where should I look for a Mopar 727 preferably locally to Colorado Springs? It's a 76 Volare.

Exhaust leak on the 1971 Charger 383.

I have a 1971 Charger 500 that has been sitting in the garage for years. I had the original engine rebuilt and installed. The second we started it up it sounded like it had an exhaust leak. I got so disgusted I just turned it off and walked away. Now I'm ready to tackle it. It doesn't look...

    The 383 problem is solved.

It's a two-step kind of thing. Today the Mopar electrician guy came over and started checking things. Spark at the coil, OK. Spark at plugs OK. The distributor cap was 180 degrees out. There is a little notch on the cap and it was in the wrong orientation. That's the mobile mechanic's fault. My...

Still no luck with the '69 Charger 383. Hasn't fired once.

It was running great then started backfiring and losing power. Limped it home and can't get it to fire once. On advice from here, changed the points and condenser. Changed the coil. Changed the plugs. Changed the ballast resistor. Set the timing at 13 degrees. It cranks well. I'm pouring gas...

The 383 still won't fire once!!!!

I've posted before but still no solution. It's a 1969 Charger with the original 383. We had the brakes worked on after a long time of not driving it. Picked up the car and drove it for about 20 minutes. It ran great. 15 minutes on the highway it started sputtering. We pull off and put in a...

    Engine is still not firing.

It was a couple of months ago when we brought the 1969 Charger home from the mechanic. He worked on brakes and some other stuff. It was running great. After about 15 miles it was running terribly. Sputtering, backfiring, no power. As you guys suggested I changed the points and condenser. I...

Spark plugs for a stock 383?

I have a stock 383 in our 1969 Charger SE. I haven't pulled them yet so I don't know what's in it. the only modification is going from a 2 bbl to a 4 bbl. I searched and all the other threads are someone with significant mods. I'm not trying to cheap out but I don't need something I don't need...

So many questions and happenings today. Need help.

I've had the 1969 Charger SE at a Mopar friend's house for a couple of weeks. No one could figure out a couple of problems the car has had since we bought it 6 years ago. One was the carb/kick down setup the other was the power brakes. He fixed both issues. We drove it around the block a few...

    Stroker Crank Question

If you put a stroker crank in a regular engine can you use existing rods and heads? Would things bang into each other?

Switching an automatic on the column to a 4 speed.

I found a car I like but it's weird. It has an AT and I would like a 4 speed. What all does that entail?

Different prices for the same kind of intakes

I see dual plane intakes ranging from $150 to $450 sometimes from the same manufacturer. What can be so different?

I heard from the speed shop today.

We took the Mopar with the 360/408 stroker motor to a racing shop about 10 days ago. It was falling on its face after about 3500 rpms and making some noise from the top of the engine. The engine came from Blueprint Engines about 7-8 years ago and it doesn't have many miles but it hasn't been...

Will not having a choke hurt my engine?

We have a 408 small block that having some issues. My friend is telling because I don't have a choke on the carb, and by pumping too much gas on cold start ups I am washing down the cylinder walls. This leads to thinning the oil and therefore having wear problems throughout the engine. Is this...

Does this Sure Grip look right to you?

The used 3.91 we installed a few years back started clicking real bad. We haven't put but a couple of thousand, albeit hard miles on it. We know very little about rear ends and even less about Sure Grips but we noticed all the bolts of the right side of the unit were backed out and sloppy. See...
