Let's talk more about garage door openers.

So we have 2 rental houses, across the street from each other in the same neighborhood, built approximately at the same time 1999/2000. Two tenants ago, the ditz backed into the garage door. We had a new door and opener installed. Lift Master brand. That was around 2019. Yesterday the new...

Anyone know Graco airless latex paint sprayers?

We bought two of these a few years ago to speed the turnover of our rental properties. They worked well, but cleanup takes up almost as much time as they save in labor. Painting doors and ceilings is the real time/labor savings, though. This time around, I got one set of doors painted and the...

Attn: woodworkers- need router bit to make simple baseboard please

We are remodeling our master bedroom and installing new flooring. There are currently rough hewn cedar baseboards and door trim in place (well, until yesterday). My wife hates the rough hewn look, but I LOVE the fact that they are real wood and cedar. Cedar helps discourage bugs, in case you...

Finally got around to this back burnered project compressor

Several years ago I picked up this seemingly sturdy air compressor for the garage at home and/or as a backup to the big one in my shop. It was $150 at a business/shop "garage sale". It was VERY hard to find info on it and I still don't know the CFM rating. I'm guessing it's around 10-12. It...

New vertical storage for tools and such.

Had this Hon brand 42" by 72" lateral file cabinet given to me. They couldn't get the drawers to open. Mechanism that prevents you from opening two at the same time is off and has to be manually disengaged to open even one. Not an issue for me, but may delve in to see if I can fix it. Pretty...

Affordable quality AC leak detector recommendations

Anyone use this one? https://www.ebay.com/itm/111816289842 Or have a better one that was priced comparatively? Thanks

    What is this tool?

Found near the alley behind where I work. Has "standard" drill chuck shank but it's plastic. Looks like it might be for a "one way" safety fastener.

Anyone ever use 16" pavers for a pole barn floor?

As the title says- I've already got them as a walkway leading out from my back porch and used to ride a motorcycle over them frequently. Any one park a car on them?

Re-handled a hammer, anyone know what kind?

My heavy hammer bit me a few weeks ago. Nasty splinter from a split in the handle. Last weekend I put a new handle on it. Anyone ever seen a hammer like this? It was $5 at a flea market. I was looking for a heavy hammer and this fit the bill. The "nose" allows me to get at things that are...

    Made a toe gauge

Noticed some tire wear on the fronts. Looked like inboard camber wear but the camber looked OK. Decided to check the toe, even though most toe wear I've seen has fraying or scalloping whereas my wear was smooth. I had the white parts although it was all one part and I cut it in half. Not sure...

Found out I have a better tire changer than GYC!

Although a high end model, theirs is still a wrist breaker, and also scratches up the rim. ...and although a lower end model, mine is a rim clamp and the bar never touches the rim! More importantly- no wrist injuries.

Soldering iron - need a new one

So my trusty decades old not sure of the name brand but worked like a champ soldering iron gave up it's ghost a few months ago. Well, really the tip got too badly distorted to use. I thought I'd just put on a new tip, but it wouldn't come out and I broke a drill bit off in it. Anyway, I went...

My friend bought a new tire changer for his shop....

...and I got the dregs. New to me Coats rim clamp. Dirty but works good. Now I can do my Dakota 17x9 and any deep dish and mag/aluminum/chrome wheels without damage. Like the balancer, it will pay for it's self after about eight sets of wheels/tires I don't have to take elsewhere and pay for.

Lift not as advertised, WTF is wrong with people ????

I mentioned in a couple of threads that I was in negotiations to buy a 4 post lift for my shop. It was listed on craigslist and had 2 photos. The ad text read- "Forward 12,000 pound alignment lift with 2 sliding jacks, works great, recently serviced -$2450" The photos clearly showed a...

Anybody have a solar battery maintainer or attic fan?

I've been looking at a zero recurring cost way to help cool my shop. I'm thinking a solar vent fan is the way to go. So far the ones I can afford seem pretty dang rudimentary for $160 there's a 12" 60w fan and a 50w panel with a rudimentary controller with a battery tap. It basically runs the...

Threading 1/2 inch rod - how to hold?

I have a side project at work ( I'm the computer guy, but they recognize my mad mechanical skill set) - repairing a specialized cart that has poorly designed rear wheels. They are 16", but very narrow- 1 7/8, and they are sheet metal disks with solid tires and ball bearings. The problem is...

    Got a new wheel balancer

My hand spin snap-on (the only snap-on product I've ever bought) failed after a few years. I believe the sensor/timing wheel is de-laminating but precious little info on these. Anyway, I've been looking for about a year, and have found a few under $500 but most were a couple hours drive just to...

    Balancer cones...all the same?

So I've got this snap-on manual spin balancer. Lately it's been saying I need 3.75 oz three, four, five or more times per wheel. Same weight, different location each spin. Calibration does not help. I found a Hunter 700 series horizontal (?!) balancer on cl for $125. It's missing a few cones...
