About this Mopar:
1963 Savoy Lightweight, 426 MW Stage II, Push button, radio/heater delete. Ermine white with blue vinyl interior built at Lynch Road in April of 1963. Galen Govier documented, frame off restored with the original aluminum front fenders and hood and a book full of documentation (has a few old photos of the car racing at Vineland Raceway in NJ). This car toured the dragstrips of the Northeast and is one of five or so campaigned from around Philadelphia and New Jersey. It was black with gold accents back then and ran with the name HOSS. Only 48 are known to have been built. This is car number 41 in the series and one of only five Aluminum Package '63 Savoy's known to Govier through 2005. Was purchased from the Reggie Jackson collection in 2010. Reggie owned the car for over 20 years.
Motor and transmission blew up years ago and were swapped with date-correct replacements. Factory lightweight cars were purchased and used for one single reason; to drag race. Most of these factory built race cars were long ago used up, crashed or dumped in a field after they’d been stripped of anything useful after they were no longer competitive. When parts failed, they threw out the old, bought new or attempted to rebuild where they could. They weren't thinking "Hey, this could be something of value in 30 or 40 years so lets keep it".
8 3/4 391 posi rearend, suspension, body parts and interior are original to the car. 727 Torqueflite and engine block are the only pieces that aren't original . Intake, carbs and headers are original. K-code steel wheels with the rare optioned 6.5" wide on the rears with 10" drums all around. The car weighs right at 3,200 lbs.
