1965 PLYMOUTH BELVEDERE SATELLITE 2-DR H.T. VINTAGE PICS 1965 SATELLITE #1

About this Mopar:

My first new 1965 Satellite, purchased February, 1965 - from Howard Ayres Chrysler Plymouth, Flagler St. Miami, FL. Black w/two-tione gold interior. Interior pic is car when it was just 6 mos. old, so you are viewing a "NEW" '65 Satellite! (obligatory Sun Tach installed!). Heater delete. 383/4-spd.

I was employed by "Crane Engineering/Crane Cams" at the time, & they were located on Dixie Hwy, in North Miami Bch, FL. Dade County. This was prior to "Crane Cams" moving to their new location in Hallandale, Florida, in 1966). I lived in Hallandale, FL. & Harvey Crane (owner), had built a new home next to me, & had hired me in 1964.

Won N.H.R.A. Florida State Championship Drag Race's @ Master's Field, Miami FL - in Oct. 1965. Car ran C/Stock. Only the Satellite body ran C/S (or C/SA), as all other "B" Body 65's (Belvedere I's & II's), ran B/Stock, or B/SA.

The Satellite was just a bit heavier with it's bucket seats, & console - to put it at the very top Of C/S (N.H.R.A. H.P./WEIGHT), class ratio. I didn't have to run the GTO'S, as they ran B/S!!! Had 14" cheater slick's, & 4:56 rear. Car originally had a 3:23 open 8-3/4. I traded the O.E.M. 3rd member, for a used one w/the 4:56's, open rear.

In this pic, car was 1-1/2 yrs old, & had just traded 4 chrome reversed wheels, for the Cragar SS wheels, w/3-bar knock-off's. Brake drums painted gold, to match interior. You can see the "Dumps" under car. (Yes, I had the frt. jacked-up, as that was the "thing" to do). I know..."G-r-o-a-n!" We all know the downside to this, but 'back-in-the-day' - it was this way. Was in the U.S.N. & by late 1967, had raised the rear also. Sold the car in 1970. "All Those Years Ago..."

"Jackie" & Satellite...1968

"Me" & Satellite...1967

Twin Carter AFB's - on an Offenhauser low-rise dual-plane aluminum intake. These were removed, & installed original cast-iron intake & single 4-BBL, to run C/S at N.H.R.A. drags in 10/65. If the 2-4's were on the car, it would have run C/MP, & I would have gotten nowhere!!! Note O.E.M. "Tar-Top" battery, & external Sun Tach sending unit. Circa: 1965
