1968 Charger - finally starting work after four years!

This will document the work on my 1968 Charger, a complete rolling chassis I bought four years ago.

About this Mopar:

I purchased the car four years ago. It's taken me that long to fix up and sell the two 1967 Camaros I had at the time. The Charger had no motor or transmission, but was otherwise complete in unrestored condition. Originally a 383 four barrel, floor shift automatic in burgundy with black vinyl top and black interior with air conditioning. I haven't decided what to do about the air conditioning, since it is only missing the pump and the hoses, but I've heard they are expensive to restore to working condition and aftermarket A/C is cheaper and more efficient. I bought a 383 from a '65 Polara and will be replacing the automatic console with a four speed. I'm not really interested in going through the body and paint right away as it has some interesting patina, and I'm burned out from working on those Camaro bodies for years, but just getting it mechanically sound. I'll probably also replace the original bucket seats with ones from a Chrysler 300 or something similar with integrated shoulder belts as I've seen done by others for a cleaner look and better comfort. I sold the last Camaro yesterday, and today I'm getting quotes to get the 383 rebuilt and get started on rebuilding the suspension! This is my first Mopar and I'll be hopeless at times, so bear with me and here we go! Pictures posted so far are from the previous owner's ad and when I had it on the trailer headed home over four years ago. My friend and I took the car to nearby Sandpoint for dinner and beers and I was able to park it across the street so I could keep and eye on it.......and look at it. I couldn't believe I had a '68 Charger!

Welcome to the Charger brotherhood!
Your Charger looks to be in pretty darn good shape to start with brother. Good luck!

Glad to see you getting started. REAL glad to see you vacated the Bow-Tie brigade for Mopar Land...Good Luck-Dantheman

Yes it looks really good. On your way to getting the car done. Wish you the best of luck with the restore project. Keep us up on it.

You appear to have some pretty good bones there to start with, far better than most I see .... Good Luck with the project

Wasco: Good luck with your Charger and welcome to the brotherhood! One recommendation that worked for me - Go with the Sanden rotary compressor conversion kit for your a/c. Works great. Don't mess with the old RV-2 compressors. Convert to R-134a refrigerant and you'll love it.

Wasco - Wish you the best with your Charger putting back
into showroom shape. Looks like a good project car to start
with. Just remember slow and steady wins the race. Thanks
for another Mopar back on the road. Mike
