68 Charger RT

About this Mopar:

This is an example of a car that was nearly pampered to death. It has been in climate controlled storage since I bought it in 1989 but spent many years almost completely ignored. Sure it was started now and then and even driven a mile or two but it also endured lengthy periods up on blocks.
This faithful Dodge was driven semi regularly for the first five years I owned it but other projects and driveable MoPars intervened. So over 30+ years it has seen just over 3000 miles.
A year ago, I decided it was time to either drive it or sell it. Since I still have it, the decision is obvious. Only now the instrument cluster has been fully restored, rebuilt brake system including the power brake booster, rebuilt power steering pump, new A/C components, changed trans fluid and filter, new shocks, etc, etc. It is still wearing 35 year old tires (don't scream, it won't be on the street until it has new rubber) but except for one re-paint in the factory color over 25 years ago, this car is a numbers matching original. I'm just amazed at how easy it starts, idles smoothly with no lifter noise, doesn't overheat and holds great oil pressure.
It will now spend the winter getting the necessary suspension updates, AM/FM radio repaired, along with hoses, belts, and a tempermental power window switch fixed. Next year this car will final get the activity and weekly care it deserves. Time to realign priorities. Tomorrow is a promisory note at best.

Great looking car! I also have a white 68 as you can see as my avatar, original and unrestored.
Looks like you have the white vinyl top, mine does not. My interior is white buckets, door panels and headliner w/ red carpet and dash.

Actually it does not have a vinyl top. The sail panel trim strips were installed at the factory but the car did not get a vinyl top. It has a brown and gold color interior with bucket seats and the center seat with pull down arm rest and a column shifted automatic.

nice!... reminds me of the car that was in the showroom when I bought my 68 superbee...I would have purchased the charger, but did not have enough money in my pocket...I paid $3632 for the bee then, and have had it ever since...but still like the looks of the charger...enjoy it!

Not many people can claim to have the original car they bought new from that era. Pretty cool. I have a friend who bought a 68 Coronet R/T new and still has it. I'm always impressed.

Congrats ! Factory White and White vinyl top and looks like tan interior :) ? I have never seen that before. Thats one thing I love about Mopars, so many interesting variations, you'd like to have been there when the person ordered the car. I have a '70 Coronet 500 N code with NO vinyl top, manual drum brakes but power steering. Strange guy who ordered that car like that since he deleted many 500 options that were available at no extra cost. Cheers ! :D

R/T AC and power windows? And White white, tan? Thats an incredible car! How many miles on it? Is it tan interior, hard to tell from the pictures.
