69 Coronet Resurrection in Alaska

Bought in May of 2015 and started the strip down to build her as MY car. Great body but no guts so I drug her into my three car garage and started to bag and tag to get her ready for patches and paint.

View attachment 362184 View attachment 362185 I realized I had not taken any time to start photos of the build so here I go. With full support of my darling wife and the plan of an end result, I pulled her in the garage to tag, bag and start the disassembly. Bought the sub frame connectors , ground to fit and installed them. Decided to POR15 the entire floor, but started with frame rails first as a test run. Inside the car, I noticed a roof support had been pulled down. Bought the special drill, removed both supports, sand blasted and primed them. Cleaned off roof with sander and used entire bags of sanding discs to get her roof in good shape. coated the support on roof side with Tiger Bond and welded supports back in place. Moved on to start stripping all paint and seam sealer off entire sheet metal, top, trunk and bottom. After a week of that I was still not satisfied with the results from the little I had got accomplished.
I am trying to catch up to current status, adding photos as I dig them out and updating a verbal time frame. Due to my ignorance of this system the picture are not going in a sequence even though I add them in the order they were taken from my file. Please bare with me as I try to give you a peek at something that makes sense.
I got my roof ribs cleaned up and used Tiger Bond to seal them to the interior roof as I welded them in place. I pulled the entire running gear and "bagged and tagged" as well as pictures which took me over a week. I laid out and built legs with good wheels to be able to move her around in the garage, which was a tremendous help. The engine was completely torn down and went to a local engine builder while the rest of the parts went in big plastic containers in an out building I have. What a mountain of boxes! Fortunately, I labeled every lid with contents and a black sharpie so I know where to find pieces. The build continues.
I had rot in the battery box area so I cut that out and formed sheet metal to replace the bad areas. Welded in and ground all that area up. I welded the pads in the floorboards for replacing by bench with bucket seats as I knew I will be going there (factory doesn't add reinforcement unless ordered with buckets).
After a week of trying to do spot sand blasting with a pot I borrowed, I quickly realized this was NOT the way to do this. I had gone through about 100 lbs of sand and 7 hours of my time under a very hot mask and set of coveralls. I spent 4 hours trying to clean up that sand scattered all over my driveway and had very little accomplished. At this point I made a decision, get a professional to do this! Smartest thing I have done in a while with fantastic results...letting someone who knows what they are doing and has the right equipment. A friend had a huge beam framework at his business plus the loader to pick the car up. We set her out in the back lot and called a portable media blaster who did it all in one day.
November 2016..Well she is finally getting professional help! Two great guys are rubbing and polishing all over my baby and getting ready to change her color. I never knew there was sooo much prepping to make a girl pretty. can't wait to see her new shade and will be sure to share it with my garage, I am told she will be done by Thanksgiving!

The car might only be a 3 right now, but you were smart enuff to bring the pro in, plus you look so damn happy with your buddy there that I had to give you a four. I know it will end up being a 5 plus. Good luck up there!!

awesome progress!! hows the weather up there?
A balmy -55 in the interior...Tanana. Here in Anchorage we saw ONLY 20 below in places but are expecting slightly colder tonight. I guess it is time to put up the flip flops in favor of closed toed sneakers.... I actually saw a big Samoan guy in shorts and flip flops walking around at 5 above zero last week. MAN those guys are tough!
