72 Plymouth GTX Tribute 440
About this Mopar:
72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus / GTX Tribute story.
The car began life as a 72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus with a 400 cu. In. big block motor. The first person to start the restoration / resurrection of the 72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus had also brought a 70 Plymouth Superbird and a 70 Challenger T/A 340 six back to its original glory. The 72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus / GTX Clone had a 70 Challenger R/T 440 installed that was bored 0.040 over with high flow heads, 727 trans with a shift kit and 2800 stall converter, and an 8 ¾ 3:23 Sure Grip rear end. When the car was restored / resurrected by the first person the original style white vinyl top, white interior, and a newer dodge red paint (Radiant Red) was used.
The car was purchased by the second person (Myself) on October 30, 2017 and I continued the restoration / resurrection and upgraded some of the cars original qualities to include new technology. The car had 70,612 Original Miles according to the information on the signed title and odometer that was on the car. The first upgrade was American Racing polished aluminum wheels 17x9.5 in the rear and 17x7 in the front. This continued with removing all the old factory AC components from under the hood and the original style radiator and cooling fan that was attached to the motor. A new 3 core aluminum radiator was installed along with dual 12” electric fans. A lot of missing rubber seals and grommets were added along with a few other missing parts that were noticed during the time spent going over the car for 2 months.
The factory AM Radio was upgraded to a new Kenwood AM/FM/HD Radio, CD, XM, Receiver that included blue tooth and a microphone to take calls from your cell phone. The front dash 4X10” speaker was upgraded to two 4” Kicker KS speakers that was powered by new Kenwood Receiver. Two Kicker 6x9” Speakers were added to the rear deck along with a Kenwood 70 watts x 2 amp to power them. The low frequencies now come from a Kicker 12” subwoofer in a ported box that is powered by a 600-watt Kicker amp.
The factory style steering wheel was replace by a Grant chrome steering wheel which resembles the 70’s Mopar Tuff Wheel.
The factory style rally gauges were upgraded with an all new Auto Meter Gauge setup which included the new black gauge panel that is made to factory size. The new gauges included: Speedometer, Tachometer, Oil Pressure, Fuel, Voltage, and Water Temp.
The 727 trans was completely rebuilt with a new shift kit and heavy-duty clutches along with a new 2800 stall converter.
The 440 big block is in process of being bored 0.060 over with new Trick Flow Aluminum Heads, Keith Black Pistons, Mopar Performance Cast Polished Aluminum Valve Covers, Fi Tech Fuel Injection, Edelbrock Performance aluminum intake manifold, and headman headers that are ceramic coated.
After the engine rebuild is completed the rebuilt transmission will be installed and the new auto meter gauges will be hooked up which will start the odometer on the new speedometer at 0 for the fresh rebuild of the car.
