Big Bad Dad's R/T and Fury

Long time owner of a 67 Coronet R/T and a 64 Fury

About this Mopar:

This is the story of my 67 Dodge R/T. I have owned it since September of 1977. One night in 1978, I was pulled over by a guy that wanted to talk. He had been a previous owner, and wanted the car back. He offered to trade me the late model import econobox he was driving, but I didn’t want it. (Glad I didn’t now!) Anyway, he told me that his brother had bought the car new, and he had bought it from his brother a few years later. By a coincidence, I went to work at a truck dealership the next year and he, and his brother, were both Mechanics there. We got to be friends, and I learned a few details about the car. It still has the dealer Certicard in the slot on the radiator support with the older brother’s name on it. The car was originally sold new to his brother at Peak’s Motors in Bedford Va. in January of 1967. The car originally had hub caps, but he had installed new Magnum 500 wheels. The wheels were cheaper to buy locally than ordering through Chrysler on the car. (I still have three of those original wheels, as well as the four Magnum spinner caps, but they are now on my 64 Plymouth…) I am using the later “road wheels” on the car. Even if not “correct”, I just like the looks of the trim rings on this car. My car is a 440, 4 speed car with the 3.54 Dana rear. All manual steering and brakes. Black interior with console shift and the optional tachometer. It is QQ1 dark ruby red metallic and has the double black pinstripe at the beltline. However, the stripe barely shows up against the dark red color.
There is another story behind my 64 Fury. I will write it up when get the time. Had a chance to take some pictures this morning, so have a few pics...

Looks good, I had a 67 Coronet R/T out of Bakersfield only it was Creamery Yellow with a white vinyl top and white interior. Put up some photos of the Fury.....

WOW that is a good back ground story. At least you know the hole history of the car. It is a beautiful car. You have taken good care of it.

Fantastic Mopars. Great story on the R/T. Looking forward to hearing more about the Fury.

I, too, prefer the look of the trim rings on the wheels! (IMO) It gives them a finished look. I am looking to replace mine with a set of one piece forged aluminum wheels that exactly mimic the look, in order to upgrade to a 15" tire; as finding large size 14 inchers is becoming a real problem! Really like your car, I almost got one back in the late 70's, but the deal never materialized!

love your 67 R/T. I regret not having bought the road wheels with trim rings, probably easier to keep clean.
