i think most of our “Mopar Stories” are lengthy. Or atleast have the potential to be if we detailed all the specifics that roll through the mind when recollecting the joys and hellish sorrows of buying, trading, flipping, wrenching, rebuilding, bankruptcy, marriage, babies, more babies, more bankruptcies....”add your experience here”. I am only kidding. But to try and keep this update brief and hopefully somewhat humorous and also interesting for some, here is where I am at with my beautiful find that I swiped up just a few months ago. When we bought it, it went straight to my buddies driveway because he is a homeowner and I am a renter and my landlord didnt want a “hazard” sitting in the driveway. i dont exactly blame him. Purchased the car from a man who was only flipping it along side a few other mopars he bought and was trying to sell. So he had no real history in the cars life other than for the last 15 or so years it mostly sat in the guys garage whom he had bought it off. So two owners back before me, had plans to make the car into some sort of a hot rod or drag car or racecar or something. Thankfully, he never got around to it. The car does not have original paint, but it has all its original sheet metal and I haven’t found a single bondo spot or rust/rot on the entire car. surface rust is the only thing youll find on this one. So, all that to say I bought it without any knowledge of wether or not the original poly318 ran. All I was told was that he believed it had been sitting for the past 15 years. The brake pedal also went straight to the floor, even though all the steel lines and rubber was in excellent shape. So we got her home and a few days later hooked a new battery up, checked the plugs and rotor and carb throat etc and turned the key to see what would happen. well it didnt seem to be getting fuel into the throat so we went ahead and helped her out and poured some down the throat and VROOM, there she went...fired right up. she stumbled and stalled because the motor continued to only run on the little bit of fuel we were pouring into the carb. so the next steo was ask “is this the carbs fault in general or fuel pump etc?” We changed the fuel pump abd without even feathering the pedal even a bit, she literally fires right up and kept running. From there I checked the linkage on the brake pedal and discovered everything in tact so i took the reservoir cover off the single master cylinder and sure enough no fluid. poured fluid in and ran out of time so would have to come back a few days later. Came back a few days later and the pedal was grabbing and stiff. I was happy. Bled the brakes 1by1 and they work. Bought a $60 carburetor on ebay; a chinese reman of the 2barrel carter carburetor that is original to this poly. (planning on rebuilding carter and reinstalling) Put all 8 fresh plugs in her and got her prepared to take her first spin around the block in 15 years. Finally drove her home, just over a mile or so from my buddies home where she sat for a few months. Working on some internals in the doors like handle button that was broken and just cleaning and greasing. Need to replace water pump/heater/radiator hoses. Need to try and bend front bumper back into place. Actually need to change all the fluids because i still havnt done that yet. The overall plan for the car is to keep it mostly stock as far as drivetrain and cosmetics exterior and interior. Will eventually do body work and paint and maybe do a big block. Maybe, maybe not. Im just thrilled everyday that I get to call this project my own and am completely content to build it bolt by bolt just the way I want it over a long period of time. Sorry if this description was way too long, once i get typing...seems I cant quite stop er’.

Cool car. Especially the poly head 318. I hope you keep that engine. Too many people dump that engine, and install a big block, or a gen 3 hemi. Leave the h caps off. It looks great without them. You can build that poly 318 into a torque monster. Lots of info, and parts for it, in fact some LA 318 parts work with it. The only reason i am going with a 383 is because my '67 came with an LA 318.
