getting him road & strip ready

About this Mopar:

Hood scoop hole cut, scoop on, and it fits perfectly over air filter. Now I just have to align the hood and add some hardware.

Single hole or dual as a max wedge?
Beautiful car, I'll check back for updates.
I am working on the restoration of my 1964 Dodge 440 2 door 426S 4 speed.
Hoping to finish and look as great as yours does.

Single hole. 426W +0.060. Cope trans. 3.91 489 rear.

To do list next week:
Hook up push button linkage
Weld a picce into my kick down rod since its too short with the modern manifold. Adjust that.
Reset the distributor since one of the ears hits the head.
Adjust the doors...the worst job for last.

Your will be just fine. Take your time. There are lots of flaws in mine. No show car. Street car/drag racer.

Frustrating Problem.

I have built this entire car from the bottom up. I have had some smooth sailing and a few bumps to overcome. However, aligning these doors is by far the most frustrating thing I have ever done. If anyone out there has any tips to give on aligning my doors on my 64 Polara 2DHT I would appreciated the input.

Is it all original metal. My door hinges had to be drilled out a little because the door hinge post was not the same as the old ones. Also my bolt holes where metric and had to tap them to American thread or standard. Had a hard time till I drilled out my hinges to let the door move forward. Wish I could be more help. But the car looks grate.

Hey, great news! I went to Boston to visit my brother for a week and when I came back home I got BOTH my doors adjusted to where they close properly. I guess I just need to back away for a while. Funny how that works so often.

Now I will hook up the push button trans linkage in my Cope transmission. Then I need to weld a piece into my downshift rod to make it longer. The intake is about two inches taller than the old one. Funny, I had an old bike kickstand that is the same diameter as the downshift rod.

Then take the distributor out and reset it so one of the "ears" does not hit the head, which limits adjustment. Duh.

Get this bad boy out of the barn soon and have some fun. Bringing a 64 Dodge Polara back to life as a new machine.

Dont get frustrated these cars were built with more tolerance than the new ones. I was amazed on passenger side door it lined up good after the new mounts but the driver side way way better with the ones I rebuilt our forefathers knew very well. Best of luck to you.

So glad to have the door's adjusted. Fought with mine and like you just went on to something else for a while. Then came back to it. They go where they want too. But some times we just don't under stand. I say the car tells us how it goes. My back window was the biggest night mare. So just had one made to fit. It cost out the A but it got done. Don't give up and want to see some pic's of it on the road.

All my glass went in OK. The rear was way easier than the front. Lots of soapy water. Love the Roadrunner. My pal in high school had one wand we did a lot of street racing.

The trans linkages is in and adjusted. I welded in a section 2 1/2" long to the downshift rod (at the bottom). This keeps the rod in the proper position for a streight push-back. A friend of mine added 2" to his 63 down shift rod on the top section and that never worked right. So I learned form his attempt. That appears to be the ticket. When the throttle is wide open the lever is pushed all the way back to get max pressure under load. Power steering is in and working. Hooked up my old Sun Super Tach. It goes with the rest of the car. Lights work, turn signals work, brake lights work, interior lights work, wiper motor works. Dash lights are another story and will require some work this winter to get them working. I put in all new bulbs but they are not working. Engine fires right up and I can get full swing on advance now that I reset the distributor into the correct position so the ear does not hit the head. I also changed the springs in the MSD distributor for a faster advance.

Not frustrating just needs patience.
