The day I broke down on the interstate.

68 Plymouth GTX **clone**

About this Mopar:

Year
1968
Make
Plymouth
Model
Satellite
It all started when I broke an axle shaft on my 87 Comanche. I was a good distance from my house on the interstate and f(beep)ed, my buddy said he knew a Mopar guy just down the road from where I was at and just have the truck towed to his house. The guy let me tow the Comanche to his place and said I could wait in his shop till my wife came to pick me up. Inside his shop was a 69 Road runner and immediately I knew I had to have it. This thing had the right look of a car that you would see with some age like roadkill but nicer. I tend to have some love for a ratty Mopar, so asked him about the Road Runner he said he has a 68 Satellite GTX clone been sitting for almost a year, and he wants to sell it. He said he will tow the 68 Satellite to my house, and I can think about whether I want to buy it. I haven't even seen the 68 Satellite and this guy is throwing it at me, I asked does it have patina, I've been looking for a good patina car. Oh yes, he said it has patina comes with a 440 and 4speed very solid no rust it's in better shape than the Road Runner.

I drove out to look at the car the next day, I was very skeptical at first sight but upon closer inspection the car is unbelievably rust free (this is all happening in California BTW) frame, rockers, trunk all solid not even showing signs of rust or repair. The reason I never owned one these cars is because I've been a 4x4 guy my whole life and Mopar's have always seemed priced out of my reach. So, it was delivered to my place the next day and 10k with all the parts and it would be mine. So, I sold the 87 Comanche for 15k (Jeep Comanche's are unicorns BTW) and it's been five months of working on it here and there.

I chose to do a patina car for a few reasons, (1) I really like them in some weird sick kind of way, (2) I cannot afford to replace every chrome bell and whistle, (3) the rust won't be real I'm not hurting the car and it's a clone no harm done to the Mopar Gods.

Fate is a funny thing to comprehend as it strikes without warning. I have a clone myself and not embarrassed about it. It sounds good to me. I think you made the right choice and I wish you the best of luck with it. Please post up more pictures when you get a chance!

Wow, thanks for reminding me. Looking good! Working rotating shifts & being officially a senile citizen inhibits my ability to function like real people sometimes. :BangHead:

I'm wondering if most people don't realize that tab, but all the pics explains the story and you could imagine my thoughts when the guy said oh yeah its got patina and then I see it in the field like that.

What brand seats front and did you have the rear seat upholstered to match?

I have no idea, the interior seemed to be redone when I got it, which was weird that someone started with interior work on the car first. It was a big selling point for me all I did was clean the dust off new seats.
