The 1962 Dodge Dart, is the only year that Dart was built on a B-body platform.
Unless you had the luxury of getting a factory sponsored, race car like the Ramchargers, this is likely where you had to start.
This car was built as a tribute to those who had to do it, the hard way.
Originally offered as the Base model, 6 cyl, 3 speed standard transmission, sedan, this was the most economical platform for a Super Stock racer to buy and build upon.
This car is how, I believe, that build would have happened, back in the day.
Starting with a 413 Max Wedge engine and updating it with performance options as they became available from the factory and accepted by NHRA’s Super Stock rules;
The carburetor’s were upgraded to 1964, Max Wedge, 750cfm, Carter 3705s carburetors, first year available. The 3 speed Borg-Warner T-85 transmission was upgraded to a 1965, New Process, A-833 4 speed w/ slip yoke, first year available without the troublesome ball and trunnion joint. The rear end was upgraded to a 1966, Dana 60 w/ Power-Lock posi, and outfitted with 4.10:1 gears, also the first year this rear end became available in the B-body platform.
The “courtesy option” offered a heater, radio, driver’s side mirror and back up lamps. This car was originally sold in Lincoln, Nebraska, so not having a heater, wasn’t really an option, either. There is no sign that the driver’s side mirror was ever installed on this car and was left off intentionally.
Asking $35,000 USD
