1965 cable shift 727 manual shift valve question

Does anyone have a picture of the correct original manual shift valve for a 1965 cable shift rear pump 727? The incorrect manual shift valve was installed in mine and need to figure out the correct one to reinstall ... and a picture of the correct one would be very helpful. The trans guy has it in his shop ....just need to get the right one and maybe match it up so i can get it right.


the picture is the one i took out - it will look very similar to the attached picture however the spacing of the groves and valve port will be slightly different. if you have one ( I know these are not a common item).... and can take a pic on a tape measure that would be a huge help in confirming i get it right this time.

There is a good picture of it in the FSM. You can maybe Google the info you need. 1964 cars with console shift used this same valve.

the one in there was the one he thought he took out, it is not the right one, with the console shift cable properly adjusted it does not go into reverse or even drive correctly. you have to move the shifter closer to park to find reverse and when in drive, (or 1) the trans is not getting full fluid pressure and the vehicle will not move correctly - like it is slipping.

the error occurred when originally He incorrectly installed the trans go manual shift valve from the shift kit, ( supposed to skip that step for 60-65 rear pump units), with that one it would go into the gears correctly, move correctly when you give it some gas, but would not go shift to 2nd, so he switch to this one (that he was quite certain was the one he took out) and now a different problem. only change was this manual shift valve.

i have the service manual, picture looks like this one, there is subtle difference in the spacing of the grooves.....they are not lining up correctly inside the fluid tunnels in the valve body.

The difference between the push button rooster comb and the console/column shift rooster comb is the width of the area where it slides into the manual valve. The valve and the rooster comb have to be from a console/column shift valve body. The console/column shift comb tab is wider anlond with the corponding groove in the manual valve. oTAlso there is a hole in the console/colomn valve body upper half to allow additional manual valve movement. The neutral safety switches and cables are also different . You need the switch with the nylon plunger.
