Hey guys, looking for some guidance. I bought myself a really cool 1965 coronet stock 361/3speed manual on the tree. I’m planning on doing a 440/ 4speed swap. I’m hoping you guys can just lay some good knowledge on me. I’ve already built my 440 it’s a 69 block did some mild head work. And just today I went and picked up a lot of the parts I need. A Lakewood scattershield, and a 1965 4 speed. It uses a companion flange like my factory trans. The previous owner used it with a slave cylinder, but he lost the clutch fork,

fist question will the 3 speed clutch fork work in the scattershield? if not what do I need. I’m using an aluminum flywheel with an 11inch clutch.

second question. Is the 1965 833 a good trans. It uses the factory companion flange but I’m not sure if I’ll run into any issues with it.

third am I over looking anything? Fee free to school me. I’ll post some pics tomorrow.

Just me....... But I would use the parts off the 361 3 speed set up. If you like the scatter shield you could always use it also. If I was not racing I would just stick to the cast bell.{bearing retainers on the trans} you will need to check its dia and then check the scatter bell and cast bell to see what fits what.
I would use the linkage set , arm , flywheel, { your 440 looks to be a steel crank / internal balance one } get a decent pilot bearing and a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing set, clean up the fly wheel and cut the floor.
Oh and nice looking project

Might want to use a mini starter, you don't need a $200 either. Mock up bellhousing headers clutch and starter before you put them in the car. If problems come up, easier to deal with engine out of car.

Make sure the crankshaft is drilled for a pilot bushing and has one installed. Here is an article that may help. https://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopa...-is-drilled-for-4-speed-pilot-bushing.392037/

Headers are always an issue in these cars, HEDMAN makes a set I know will work OOTB, 1-3/4” With a 3” collector.. I have a set in my 65 Coronet. You will need special engine mounts, got mine from Schumacher a long time ago.

Hope this helps!

I have a set of hookers ceramic headers that I got for free. So I’ll be trying to make those work. Are the blocks different from 361 - 440?
