Good morning and let me introduce myself... Name's Eric and I own both of these lovely old ladies, Dot the Valiant 100 and Maxine the Charger (383 4sp).
The winter projects have began and right now I'm focused on the radio issue I'm having in the Charger. I've done a long search and haven't come up with any users who rebuild these, so that's the first recommendation I need. Second, I need the support bracket for the radio as well.

There's more parts I need but I assume I'm better off posting in the parts forum, but if not let me know and I'll throw the list here.

Thanks and I look forward to participating in this forum often! Charger.jpeg Valiant.jpeg

I suggest you take the radio to someone who has worked on tv`s or other things that used transistors.
About 20 years ago, a friend of mine checked out my radio. There were 3 transistors near the right hand front of the radio. Each had a different rating. Replaced them. Might have spent 5.00 for all 3. Radio still works fine.

I may be able to help with the radio. Is it the AM radio or AM-FM ? If it's not a rusted basket case radio it's probably repairable if it's an electronic problem. I'll send you a message.

Are you looking for that bar that supports the radio in the back?

Thank you reheard. Hope one can make sense out of write up. Can’t remember why I had written down the 5 needed, almost think it might have been because I was doing more than one radio.
Lots of people that deal with electronics, can test it. Example people working as telephone repair.

Big thanks to twecomm ! I sent Terry my radio and he checked it out only to confirm that it is in fine working order. I'm eating some crow here as I didn't realize the support bracket is also the "ground" for the radio... you live and learn I guess. All that means is that I either need to find a bracket or hopefully someone on here can share a photo and dimensions so that I can build one.

I'm just going to go ahead and start a new thread with general information on the car and move along with that one.

So far, I'm happy with the decision to join FBBO! There's already proven to be some good people on here.

While the radio is out for future reliability and good performance replace all of the electrolytic capacitors. For less than $25 in parts and 20 minutes labor it is the right thing to do.

Note: 3/8" is for the fork end opening width, not length.

If you ever decide to upgrade your factory radio, SM Electrotech in MN does excellent work. I sent them my original AM radio and they converted it to AM/FM Stereo. They also know to leave the EL lighting alone. Great folks to work with...Ive repaired the EL in several of my gauge rebuild customers radios and sent it our to them for the conversion. The radio weighs about half of what it did originally....

        Nice ride you have there!
