Ok so just how many are there?
I've read the the posts that there were only 906 made. I also read the post on curbside classic about the red 68 6cyl. Thought I remember seeing on graveyard cars they had a 68 6cyl with 3 console shift.

I recently found a 68 charger, 6 cylinder 225 with 3 on the tree. Original interior and paint, complete car. I was hoping to have some clarification, this obviously was a special order from the factory because the 6 wasnt available as an option until 69??

Any more information would be great. Dont worry, it wont be a clone or a tribute car. Going to be restored to factory.

I've never seen a (pre-1971) factory 6 or small block B body car with a floor shift manual transmission.

        C is 225, B is 198

        5th digit

        I don't see them putting a 198 in a Charger, though

XS being an R/T with a 6 cylinder? I think that was a restamp maybe?

Standard engine was either the slant 6 or 318 2 bbl. for the 68 model year.

        91 r/t was a little quicker on the draw:thumbsup:

Chrysler did make mistakes on VIN tags and car builds. Here is another VIN error. I owned this one for a while. 20180504_185815.jpg

Oh yea I get that. Just usually when there is no black paint and other stuff maybe it is a restamp. Most VIN's that are completely bare and altered didn't get that way naturally. Some but not most. Either or a wierd car for sure.

This was long ago.I worked at a Dodge Dealership in the early 70's. We had a 68 Charger 6 3 on the tree come in with a under hood fire. I think the insurance co totaled it.Don't remember where it went after that . There was a blue 69 at the Vegas MATS show a few years ago.

I can't say anything about the XS 70 Charger as I didn't take the picture or see the car. There does seem to be some remnants of black paint and the rivets look real. Proof is in seeing and I can't claim that. It is just one of those unanswered questions. My friend that sent this to me is in the same boat, he doesn't know more either.
Our questionable member 442 bought the 67 Coronet R/T from me that was missing the 3 in its VIN #. That's probably where the disputed R/T inside door emblems came from, but I can't say that for sure either.

Fender tag should show a "E" code for that Charger.

I passed on buying a 69 Coronet R/T that had transposed VIN digits on the block.

I'm sure it came that way from the factory, and the seller claimed he was discounting the price accordingly. On a 20K plus car (at the time), I'd personally rather buy a "real" R/T without the matching number engine for a LOT less.

A slant six is rare in a 68-70 charger for a very good reason.........
