Just hard to believe.
Found these among other neat stuff been saving for many years.

In the year of 1969...............when I purchased my first new car. 69 RR A12 for $3840.
I earned $3431.47. Had tax due of $7.28 after filing.
1970 made $4439.........owed $6.01

Also found my original drivers learners permit 1965, with one hole punched in it, failed to parallel park close enough to the curb.

Those were the days.

The min. limit today is $12,400 so 3400 and change would make sense back then.

So how were you able to buy that car? Parents money?

$4439/year 40/hr 52/weeks = $2.13 an hr in 1970
what was min. wage in 1969/70 ?

I was getting only $1.65 an hr my 1st job min wage
(I also worked occasionally for my dad for $5 an hr
digging holes for awnings/decks in granite, busted my ***
)
1974, had to work all summer to save $400
to buy my 1st 68 Charger R/T for $350
with an added few tips in there for fixing flats
& for fueling/filling & doing windows for the local logging trucks,
drivers were cool
at Paul Petterson's Shell
in my sophomore year in HS
up at 4:30am for work by 5:30-5:30
home by 6:30pm, worked usually 12 hr days min.
unless after school, it was only 4 hrs a couple days a week

I got a free tank of gas/topped off, in my Hodaka 125 daily too
Later when I drove my 68 Charger he'd (Paul) would fill it up
every so often for free too, that was like a $10 tip

I was making $2.50 an hr (+ tips) by end of summer
& thought I was walking in tall cotton

Father passed in 67 mother co signed for me. I still have the owners card with her signature on it. No I do not have the car. It's just 8 miles from my home now and he does at this time not want to sell it. I sold it in mint original condition for $1400. I had a 64 Sport Fury convertible 383 4 speed at the same time.

I remember those registration cards. Back when Pa. used letters to tell you how many owners the car had. Yours being A, first owner. I bought my V code ‘Cuda back in early ‘83, a K title. It was in my Dad’s name at the time for insurance purposes. No more letters when I put it in my name in the 90’s. I’m the 12th owner in Pa.

Cool stuff! I remember those days quite well. I had a 1953 Harley K model I rode to work in the summer. Thought I was big ****!
