I know the 66/67 B bodies Danas are slightly narrower than the 68-up and am curious if it is enough to reduce the width of tires I would like to run if I put a 68-up unit in the car? I plan to run 275/70X15" on 8" rims with factory back spacing.

Also, is it enough difference that I would have to relocate the leaf spring brackets?

Unless I'm mistaken, 66-70 are exactly the same width. 44" perch to perch. 71 is wider and won't fit. Don't ask me how I know first hand. Check my ad for the 71 Dana and you'll find out. Check this out:

That chart is not correct.

Yes, I have learned that the perches are the same but the axles themselves ARE narrower.

The 66-67 Dana rear end is a little over 3/4" narrower which will bring the wheels in about 3/8" closer to the inner wheel well, hence my question.

The chart below is correct.

The 66-67 rears average about 1/2" narrower but I've found a couple that were 3/4" shorter. Not sure about the Chargers but I know the Belvederes are pretty tight in the fender wells and that size tire might be a problem....

Looking at my 66 Charger and 66 Bel, the Charger seems to have more wheel well room on the outside of the tire. You may be OK with the slightly wider Dana.

like moparbill said,if you dont have your wheels yet,why not run the rear you want and backspace the wheels to fit.

I already own the wheels and there is a 1970 B body Dana local to me that I am thinking of and that is why I am asking. I don't want to buy something and then find that it won't work.

if,at most, the overall diff in width is 3/4 of an inch.how close are those wheels, with your current diff,to the outside wheel well?if you have atleast 1/2 inch clearance, then it should work fine.

I didn't know that, thanks. But fitting the axle on a Charger should be much easier because of the wheel opening.
