Hello. Looking to get some insight on a car I bought. It’s a 1979 Chrysler 300. The original 360 is gone and it has a big block in its place. I’m keeping the engine and trans. Is the body/rest of the car worth keeping together or is there a demand for parts? It’s a clean, rust free Arizona body, hood and fiberglass header are no good but the grille, belezs and lights are good. The interior is fair but the front seats are worn and have holes and the dash pad is cracked. No sun roof or T top. Any info would be appreciated!
hmm, shame we are so far apart,i know where theres one silver/grey with rotty body but fantastic red interior for 600 bucks. drivetrains in it too,but i think it was a reg 318. the 300-s have a following, they arent bad. if you dont want to keep it,youd be better off selling as a roller. do you have some pics of it and does it have a clean title?
I’m not going to want the car. It had a smallish carb fire and toasted the hood and the fire department broke the header panel.
up on the right hand side. drivers side whats that black on windshield? is the windshield cracked? hows the engine bay look? and is there a title and how much are you looking to get? the body does look to be worth saving.
That’s just a blacked out buyers tag. Think the windshield is good. Engine bay isn’t bad but some of the wiring and hoses are junk from the fire. It has an Arizona salvage title. I haven’t got the car home yet to evaluate the damage so I don’t know what the price would be. Was hoping someone here would point me in a fair direction.
the hacked up front header panel is what hurts the most. salvage title hurts. no motor,trans,wiring/burnt,heat roached interior. im gonna guesstimate its worth anywheres from 5-700 bucks to someone who might save the car. partwise,it sounds like there isnt much left, maybe the disc brake setup and perhaps the rearend. interiorwise, you might save the console, steering column, and other bits but.... i probably would let the car go as a roller.
Brad, My running & driving complete 79 300 with a $1000 TTI exhaust,I hate to say it, I had a hard time getting $4000 for it. I do believe someone will want it for the salvageable parts.Ask a grand and see what happens. We all know sometimes you pay several hundred bucks for that 1 part you need. I was stupid for ever letting mine go.
Just under 2 years ago a buddy of mine sold his 300 All original paint , interior, except for a couple engine belts and converted to electronic ignition with under 20k original miles . still had the original tires went with it. Sold for a little under $10k
I bought one new and still have it. They are not in demand...the selling prices are low. Yours will be worth more if you part it out, than trying to sell it whole; and it will take awhile to sell everything. Please post your VIN to this registry if you don't mind. Pictures of your fender tag would be appreciated too. https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/threads/1979-chrysler-300-registry.136983/
Honestly I rode in a friends 300 and it’s a nice car, not a race car but a nice car.. if you have a decent one fix it keep it nice .. there is some demand for them as they are an affordable alternative and not a fwd car or a new one .. just something different
I do appreciate everyone’s input. I knew there wasn’t a demand for them, or really any 76-79 B body. I just though with it being a 300, someone would want a clean roller body to swap their good soft stuff and drive train into. Or just have as a parts car. I don’t want to part it as I don’t have the space to tie up dismantling a car. I’ll post more pics when I pick it up.
Got it home. It has a pretty bad ass 3” exhaust with Flow master mufflers and 2” primary headers. Looks like the headers were custom made. The body is pretty decent. It has some bubbling on the pass lower quarter and a soft spot/hole in the trunk. The paint was lifting behind the rear window so I chipped at it. No holes, just bad paint prep. Didn’t see any fender tags. Under side is under coated and looks decent. The trunk lid has oil on it, not rust. All the plastic and wiring under the hood is shot!
A few questions about the car for @Moparbrad 1: Was the car repainted at some point? I ask because the red and blue pinstripes are gone and the rear window chrome trim was painted body color from the factory. 2: What is the condition of the front fenders? Are the small stubs for mounting of the louvers still there? 3: What is the condition of the red/white/blue medallions that are under the rear side quarter windows? 4: What is the condition of the wheel hub caps?; and I'm sure the 300 medallion in each hub is either gone or faded. 5: Does it have a rear window defroster (lines in the glass)? 6: What is the condition of the "turned metal appearance" dash panel that surrounds the passenger side chronometer? Thanks in advance and good luck with the sale.
1: Was the car repainted at some point? I ask because the red and blue pinstripes are gone and the rear window chrome trim was painted body color from the factory. Yes, it has been painted. 2: What is the condition of the front fenders? Are the small stubs for mounting of the louvers still there? Fenders look good. No stubs for the louvers. 3: What is the condition of the red/white/blue medallions that are under the rear side quarter windows? The medallions are faded and sun checked. 4: What is the condition of the wheel hub caps?; and I'm sure the 300 medallion in each hub is either gone or faded. The hub cabs are all there, one 300 medallion is missing. 5: Does it have a rear window defroster (lines in the glass)? Yes, it has rear defrost. 6: What is the condition of the "turned metal appearance" dash panel that surrounds the passenger side chronometer? The turned metal inserts are there and appear to be good.
