So, I search online for door hinges for my car , I come across classicindustries, they have the parts and show them as " in stock " . I open an account and enter my debit card details ( mistake number 1 should have used a credit card ) I make the order and the hinges automatically change into " out of stock " . And " visa hold pending " ... I wait 4 days and receive an email allowing me to choose a freight company , slight problem it's sent as a PDF file so I can't edit it to accept the freight terms . I reply back explaining the problem ,and request a form that I can edit, 3 days later I receive another form for freight , this time it's a JPEG file ( yep you sent me a picture - great. ) I reply back .... Nothing ... I telephone the international desk , I speak to a guy who's says he's updated my account and the hinges will be sent . I wait another 7 days , my account still shows " out of stock visa pending " . My patience wears thin I check with my bank and they confirm no payment as yet has been taken and they will fight my visa payment corner if it comes to dust up . frustrated I look through eBay and find the same hinges in Colorado , i message the bloke on a Sunday and within 5 hours he confirms he has them and can send them , I order them , next day they have been dispatched - same price and air freight tracking number attached so i now have a new mate in colorado ( note to self : not been to colorado check holiday prices ) Meanwhile back at classicindustries I'm still "on hold" , I email them again explaining I no longer want my order - no reply . 4 days later I email again ..... And that was 5 days ago...
I have exhausted every link on their website to see how to " close my account" - theres NO WAY of closing my account that i can find . Ive sent 2 order cancellation emails - still no reply. I notice they frequently update their Facebook page - so someone's obviously reading emails. So here's my 2 bobs ( 10 cents ) worth .... Don't order from these clowns, seems to me they accumulate orders then order from manufactureres. Their website is very very misleading their Comms are non existent and once an account is opened it cannot be closed . End result ? Youll get "proper mugged off" and fyi where I'm from if someone uses that term its taken as a huge insult .
I needed to share this because there are some great people on this forum from all over the world, so please save your time and hard earned money and profit from my bad experience .
And on the off chance someone from classicindustries reads this post here's food for thought ... " First choice in restoration parts? " .... Don't make me laugh ....I wouldn't touch you with a barge pole .

If the new mate in Colorado you are referring to is Jeff Brown, you have found a great vendor. I have bought a lot from him over the years and never had a problem.

There are many vendors who do a MUCH better job and communicate with their customers. I unfortunately have had a similar experience with them and choose to do business elsewhere.

I can tell I need to brush up on my English (UK) nomenclature. Thanks for defining your jargon. :D:D

I've always been treated fairly by CI. However I do find them to be overpriced so I havent ordered anything from them in quite some time.
I've been able to find everything from fellow members on this forum for much less $$$.

I don't do business with them, but regardless - it appears all of this is being attempted to be remedied primarily via emails and online contacting methods, eh?
I'd suggest getting on the phone and dealing with an actual human in real time - and making sure to get names and such for possible follow ups if necessary.

Hmmm, I'm suprised to hear of your trouble. I've ordered a lot of parts from Classic Industries and have always been treated great! There were a couple times I had a problem but they went over the top to take care of me and turned out better than I expected. I've always been able to speak with someone and if you use their discount promotions, their prices usually beat or match anyone else's.

I'm not saying they are better than other vendors, (there's some other really great ones out there), just saying I have always been treated very good by them.

Rick Ehrenberg always has hinges for sale. But he hangs out over at Moparts.com

Agreed mate and points taken but after over 2 weeks the episode has left a very sour taste in my mouth ...the main reason being no way to close my account with them ... and I think that’s very unfair given they have my card details ...

I just like to use our slang mate ... when my friends use it in certain contexts it can ( at times ) add humour to a poor situation ...

British tutorial: An elevator is a "lift", an umbrella is a "lolly", and Steak & Kidney pie is "botulism". Seriously though... love the Brit accent, mate.

did you try to edit the pdf?

you can create a pdf file that allows the reader to fill in blanks.

I've ordered a few things from 521, no issues. As for Classic Industries and Year One, for that matter, they are spotty on service and expensive. I ended up getting most of my parts from vendors an Ebay. And the reproduction parts are all the same, most made in china.

I can identify with you one hundred percent. I live in the very far north in a non America country. Ordering stuff can be anightmare. For one thing, nobody ever actually answers their phone. Being on hold for long periods of time when I’m supposed to be making money for my boss can be embarrassing, at the very least. I can’t leave a phone number to be contacted at as I cannot always access my cell phone, and the secretary would take a dim view of putting through calls from another country for non work stuff.
If, and it’s a big if, I can do it online it’s much better. But I don’t usually want an account and the nonstop emails and offers that can come with it.
                      Then comes shipping.
Southerners get and expect overnight service. It can and does take weeks for stuff to get here. We accept and expect that. Yet southern companies will insist on only shipping things the fastest, insured, signature on receipt, kiss on the lips shipping method. Even if we try to insist on slower, cheaper methods. Ebays policy is the worst, with only one option being offered sometimes. We can face postage charges of over FIFTY dollars to receive a single book or music CD that can be mailed for around eight dollars. I was once faced with a postage bill of ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE dollars for postage on four screws and a washer that could be mailed in a bubble envelope for five dollars. A gun parts company once sent a single pin and a tiny extractor spring in seperate boxes for twenty two dollars postage, each.
I’ve had much better luck dealing with people on this site, although if I could offer one piece of advice it’s this: Get a PayPal account. Don’t like or trust them? Doesn’t matter, just do it.

I feel your pain mate , a key fob is priced at £12.00 .... postage is £13.00
I’m no skin flint but how does that work ? And for good measure the U.K. will probably add in some import duty .All the stuff that moves around the globe and has a sell by date ships really easy it seems .I’ve got PayPal and I like it a lot . The best firm for me in the U.K. so far has been ‘ rockauto’ ( and my new mate in Colorado ! ) rock auto pay U.K. taxes on the goods before they leave the US so it’s a flat price and they ship fast - hassle free but not always got everything I need .... I agree with you 100% - this forum works really well and I’ll say it again - there are some ‘proper people’ ( great members) here ...
