Well, had enough of the 51 year old units. Ordered 3 from Holley. The 4144 is already here. The outboards expected around the 11th (August)..
Holley says, "These are Wet Tested, and ready to bolt on" I'm wondering.... How true this is. I explained it's a 390 HP Six Pack A12. (Bee). Wonder if ANYONE else here has done this exact same operation?
And how did it go? Guess I should keep the originals. Althought the front outboard is INCORRECT, it has an accel pump housing that's been filled in. Sight plug screw isnt lower like OEM should be.
I do know this was NOT CHEAP.

Why keep an incorrect carb when you are buying a new, "more correct" carb? Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the 3 Holley 2bbl carbs you are buying designed and laid out like the original 6bbl, including the fuel bowl sight plugs?

The front Outboard was taken off, and already cleaned. It had a stripped Idle Air screw, WILL need baseplate. Or screw reworked for certain.

You bought 3 new carbs. A Holley 4144 for the center and 2 outboards. Are the outboards Holley 4365? If so, you are set. I would set the outboard mixture screws 1/2 turn out from seated. The center comes with a 62 jet. If your motor is stock, leave it. If not, bump it up to 64. Slap them on and check the flood settings. Warm it up. Gas should be at the bottom of the sight plug. Just a trickle out. I would save your original carbs.

Yessir, 4365's.. My 440 is a warranty block, "A" stamped .020 over, my ol man did put a Comp Cams .292 cam in it some 25 yrs ago.. (Can't beleive the thing still runs, with GOOD carbs). Guess the ethanol finally got to em.
Holley knows theyre for an A12, just got off phone with Promax, if I have any issues I can always send em to him.
After rewiring the whole damn car I'm due for a break..lol
Never occurred, till now whole problem could have been an Accellerator pump. It was time for new ones. Damn gaskets are like JB weld when I took #1 off to clean it.

BUT!!!
THIS is absolutely THE best way to set the outboard carbs idle mixture screws, and this information couldn't be any more valuable if it would have been handed down from heaven on a sheet of gold, nestled on a silken pillow, surrounded with laurel boughs, with a host of Heaven's angels singing the "Hallelujah Chorus"...

Not sure about the Comp Cams 292, but I'm a BIG fan of the old school Direct Connection 292°/.509 cam. Runs good, SOUNDS GREAT!
I guess that's one thing I'm slightly worried about, that whatever cam goes into the 541 I'm having built may not sound as good (although it's going to be a solid lifter and have more lift, I don't know about duration, overlap, etc)

Damnn that sounds mean as hell... I filmed one if mine 2 months ago for a guy who wanted to hear if it was "Stock"..lol I'll have to trim it. Meanwhile, fighting to get this old aluminum sandwich gasket **** off of my Aluminum intake, now that all 3 are off...

In my opinion, use Felpro 1215 valley pan. It’s the one with the closed heat riser.

The only one I've ever used.
I've never used the paper gaskets that come with the metal one.
I use silicone around:
All of the intake ports.
Along the entire length of both sides and ends of the lifter valley.
A little extra in the corners on the ends where the "hold down bars" end.
It's hard to squeeze it out through a small hole in the applicator tip, but it's a small bead.

Allows time to fix other things, fuel pump, (Wondering if the Stock type from Year One is sufficient?) Got radio & all 3 2 Watt speakers working,) fuel guage still inop. Figured Id wait till its running to attempt that, hopefully a sending unit, seeing how I already have it.
Wondering if I should install 3 fuel filters? LoL Polish up the fuel lines, you know. Anything ya fight with carbs ON it?

I strongly suggest the upper braided stainless fuel line kit from Promax. I got the lower kit too.
FLUSH THE LINES before you install them!
Having the upper braided lines makes tuning, removing and replacing the carbs for working on them or changing jets or other components SO MUCH easier, and they look REALLY cool too!

Yeah, I may do the lines little later once recoverd from this $$... I figured an OEM type pump may not be the "Go To". Carter Hemi carb on it now leaks oil pretty "Well"... Worn out.

Cleaned one in Sonic cleaner & Simple Green.. Not bad.

Hopefully, I wont have that sluggush, off cruise rpm "Fall On own Face" crap for a while..

None of my carbs have them. Where is your inline fuel filter? Before or after the fuel pump?

My carbs never had them. If you are not running a vapor separator, put an in line fuel filter right after the fuel pump. I would use a Carter 6903 fuel pump. Also check your fuel pump push rod. If it’s worn, replace it but all the aftermarket ones suck. There is a member on Moparts that sells OEM ones. I just bought a few from him. I would use the stock fuel lines for now.

If you have a bigger cam than stock, I would change the center jets to 64. 62 cones stock in it.

None of my carbs have them. Where is your inline fuel filter? Before or after the fuel pump?

Definitely AFTER, I was considering a 2nd inline Before the pump...lol
Have the fuel lines (rubber hoses) OFF of it right now, figured be a good time to replace all of that mess. It had NO filter previously! Probabiy why my carbs always overloaded, **** in the Needle & Seats.. Has OEM style fuel line on it...Comes to a flared end down behind Alternator..
