4 speed 2nd gear

When I shift from 1st to 2nd occasionaly I can't get it to go into 2nd gear easy and I have to search for it. Could it just be an adjustment on the linkage rods is needed or something else? I took off the shifting mechsnism and it's not sloppy at all. It shifts fine into all the other gears

Once or twice when I take it out, but not that hard or often
