400/512 stroker project begins.

I've used a few of the Milodon bronze gear versions. At least as good as the old Mopar bronze setup.
 
The machine shop had to deck the block 10 thou to get it square and true. Then they had to remove the same from the top of the piston for 0 deck. I'm hoping I can still run a 1.6 rocker set up. I have seen some test that going from a 1.5 to 1.6 doesn't seem to affect horse power much on these big strokers but I would still like to take advantage of the roller cam.
 
Its getting close to dyno time. Just need to get some push rods measured up and ordered. Then see what it's going to do on the dyno.

This whole core shift thing has me scared of my 230 cast 400. My only machine shop option doesn't have a sonic tester.

If you are trying for a "high output" stroker 400, you really should find an experienced "performance" machine shop. I would expect such a shop would have access to sonic testing. Before sonic testing was commonly available, we looked at the location of the bolt holes relative to the casting, lifter holes centered in casting, cam holes both front & back, etc. That gives you some idea.
 
Well hopefully I will be on the dyno this week guys with some numbers for you. Then the work starts! I'm going to try to take a video of the dyno session.

Also to add I decided to go with a 850 xp over a 950. The peak hp will be a little lower but will make more torque down low and be more street friendly.
 
Well got the numbers from the dyno session today! The numbers are close to forty more than expected. So I'm very happy with the results. I took a video and will post it hopefully by the end of the weekend.

I'm not remembering if all the specs are above. But I'm going to be needing a spec list and part numbers. The whole cheat sheet.
 
The cam I decided to go with is a hydrolic roller by comp. The duration @ 50 thou is 252-258 and 609 lift with 1.6 rockers. Its the custom grind advertised by the 440 source.

Good power, did you pull it any higher than 5500? Looks like it was still going
 
The shop did some higher pulls on break in the day before and said it was starting to nose over after 5500rpm. The horse power keep going up each run that we made today. Loosening up a bit on every run. The guys at the shop even seemed impressed by the numbers especially with the duel plane intake with no work done to it. Not even port matched.
 
I'm going to add because the right bank a/f ratio got cut off on my picture that it was running at 12.7 a/f ratio. I'm sure I read something before about BB mopar's will run lean on certain cylinders on opposite banks.
