The high bid is still pretty low with 3 days to go on the auction.

At first glance i think it looks pretty nice.

I really dig that one. Add a Gear Vendors OD and eat up the miles with it. It will probably sell for twice the current bid.

Nice 71 Hemi Charger R/T Clone, for $35k

but it's just a 318 car with all the added R/T & Hemi stuff
they (318 cars) weren't exactly rare

still a nice appearing car, I didn't spend much or 'waste a bunch of time',
looking at all the photos
at 1st glance it's nice car
data plate/fender tag/VIN readers will pick it apart

it should sell for at a min. double that # +
it's got more than that in parts, let alone labor costs, or shipping costs for parts

it hasen't been driven hardly in the past 19-20 years (since 2007 IIRC)
400 miles, the current owner
some of that's will be dictating, some of the price
but it's not a fresh build

unless 2 people get a hardon for it & drive it up
or a shill bidders/buddies, or people at the dealership, the last few hrs

Looks to be a pretty well done clone with some nice options that are either added or original to the 318 car. 71-74 clone cars will be like 66-67 clone cars, and not be as desirable as the 68-70 cars. My guess 50-55K.

It costs 35 grand to build a Hemi engine from scratch in today's money. I know this personally having just built one. This car should bring 75k easily. It costs more than that to build it.

What it costs to build and what it can sell for are always two different things.

Hemi is 35k
Clean 71 Charger body is atleast 15k
Paint and bodywork is atleast 20k
There are atleast 15k worth of 71 Charger R/T specific parts on this car.
Plus interior/chrome/exhaust etc. It would cost over 125k to build this car right now.
That would be doing most of the work yourself,double that if you had a shop do the work for you.

They could of installed the rear axle position properly for that money also amongst many other things

I would rather spend $125K on a real factory U Code 440 - 4 Speed - Dana R/T or put the money towards a factory 440 Sixpack V Code Superbee or R/T

Well at the end of the day someone is buying this car for the hemi engine - likely because they cannot afford a real hemi car.
If you're fine with a 440 than of course an original 440 car would be a better buy.

I've been into it for alot of years. The days of driving your restored, real Hemi car are done. Done it, worried about parking it etc. and if you restore a Hemi car you gotta get everything "right", not close, right.
Clone is the way to go if you want one you drive a bit and enjoy. They still cost a lot of cake to do, it isn't 1985 anymore.
71's are a fantastic driving one year only car. They are the best driving B-body you're ever going to experience, no wind whistles from vent widows, nice feel driving etc. No one is going to buy this car to pull the engine and dump into their 1968 whatever then junk this body.
This car is worth $75k anyday of the week and you're not going to build it for that.
This was my all matching #'s real one and honestly I'm glad I don't have the burden of caring for it these days. Ironically, I do miss driving it but I don't miss worrying about when some idiot is hovering over it at an outdoor car show that he got in for free.

Agreed, with the current value of original Hemi powered cars,most will not see much if any street use. That said, other than the initial buy in price of an original Hemi car,everything else costs the same to build or restore as an original version.

Maybe Im a bit off. But I'm of the mindset if I cant drive it. I have zero use for it

And yes , mine is very real, and since Ive owned it , ( Oct 2020 )
I've managed to put over 16k miles on it.

Any trip under maybe 3 or 4 hrs, the trailer stays home. and I use up a lot of high test

Well with the 5% buyers fee the high bid was actually a little bit over 50k.
Still not too surprised it didn't sell for that.
For 50k i would be buying it too.
