I changed out the water pump housing for a car one with great care and the dimensions were the same. However, the threaded holes in the ends of the heads are not the same. Plus I'm not sure how these power steering brackets go on with another big front balancer on a cast crank with non-AC.

    Many Thanks

You mean the holes in the ends of the motor home heads are drilled in different locations? Seems odd, but could you drill/tap regular holes where you need them if they're in the wrong place?

Are you using a b motor alternator bracket? The rb motor hole is about 5/8” farther out.

Both have 3/8 holes drilled and tapped but on the same end so if you swap them from one side to the other the holes are only in front on the right side of the engine. on the other end is a smaller 5/16 tapped hole. This motor when I got it had the front alternator bracket nothing else. The power steering pump came from an RB engine.

Here is a 440 bracket redrilled to work on a 400. The distance from the top wp bolt to the 440 alt hole is about 5 1/4” center to center and the 400 alt hole is approximately 4 7/8”.

The top photo is before I drilled it.

This helps especially with which head goes where.

        Many thanks.

The head bolt holes should be in the same place from head to head unless it’s a non factory head.

The only difference is low deck vs high deck changes the distance from crank centerline thus moving the head outward when going from b to rb.

The brackets are different to compensate for deck height difference. Unless you have a dual purpose bracket that looks a lot like the bracket after my modification.

What year of brackets are you using? Pics?
I've never seen a BB head with 5/16" holes.

Auggie. If you want to come down to Waterville Ohio you can look at my alternator set ups. I have both b and rb in vehicles. I probably have a bb ps pump setup too that I’ll give you.

I’m the guy that came up and compared 2dr rear seats to 4dr rear seats last year. You are welcome to come down any time.

        Let me know
