69 gtx 512 low deck stroker 10.2 to 1 compression. Trick Flow top end kit 240 heads. Cam is .600 lift and 243 in and 247ex @ .50 . Single plane Trick flow intake as well .This is 90% street car with 5 speed manual and 4.10 gears. Just curious what carb would be best fit and best throttle response.

I run a proform 850 DP in my 69 GTX.
440/496, street car, 4 speed, Eddy heads, Holley SD intake, 9.7:1 comp, roller cam 242/248 .600. 1 7/8 header into 3 inch exhaust.
Dyno 570 hp and 630 torque. HP all in at 5400 RPM and torque all in at 4400 RPM
This combo runs great. No issues with this carb. Throttle response is good and power is good at all RPM
This is a very fun car to drive

850 TQ.
[1] 3900lb street car, 455 CI engine, auto, factory intake, 3.31 axle, small 236 @ 050 cam, street registered, ran 11.78/115 mph
[2] Same car & drivetrain, Victor intake, bigger cam, 11.59/118.
No fine tuning done to improve times.
And not a gas guzzler.....

My 850 DP did real well on the dyno, and driving around. I bet it would do well for you. As always some tinkering may be required. Lots of 850 DP's both new & used out there.

Yeah was thinking 850 DP not sure on what brand to go with. Was looking at the AED 850

I’ve tried plenty on mine. My cam is .572 and I used 440source cnc stealth heads. CR is 9.7:1 with lots of quench!

It finally liked an 850 dp QF the best. Response is great throughout. Just a street car!

The list...the original 650 that was on the 383 to begin with, a 750, another 850, a 950 and 1050 and none seemed to do as well with this 850. I had a friend that had all kinds from racing. The one thing I’ve learned is every build / motor is different and there’s no set carb that will be best. Just may get you close or may work or may not. What I ended up doing is talking to a carb guy with the specs and he got me the current 850 quick fuel type. Little tweaking to set up and it’s been there ever since. I was fortunate to have many at my disposal to try without spending lots kinds of cash! Good luck. Remember, have fun with it too!

I can get you the carb guy’s contact info if you’re interested. Just let me know.. I’m not sure if he’s still doing it but worth a check maybe..

What model was the quick fuel. Yes I'd be interested in talking with him

I have no idea what brand. Look closely at the features and then the price. I think Holley is still the baseline. But the others may be.

We use the Demon 850 DP on our 505. Absolutely love this carb! It makes great power, has great drivability and gets reasonable mileage. It has been virtually untouched since we set it up 6 years ago.

Well thanks for the help..Called tech dept at AED he was on par with a 850 like you guys said. Ordered the one in pics..damn thing is pricey hope it works well. Anyone here run one of these before.

Looks good. I notice they don't list what jet sizes are. Just curious. Let us know how it does for you.

I run the basic Holley 850 DP. Its on my pump gas 493 in my 63 Sport Fury. Has run 10.70's with the 850 and was no faster with a 950. I have a few mods done to the 850 and its has great driveability and works nice at the track. The car drives so good with the 850. Ron

I’m wondering if we have similar set up- I am building a 383 to 496 stroker w TF 240 heads, 833 trans and 3.23 gears. Web calculator put me at 750/770.
Would the 850 be too much for street only?

I believe a 750 can handle 600hp..I called the tech line at AED he 850 would be perfect and the one I got has annular booster which probably drops it down to 830 cfm..I'm betting you would be close to same carb. Give them a call

Eng CI's x Max RPM ÷ 3456 = Carb CFM
should get you in the ballpark.
Example:
446 x 5600 ÷ 3456 = 722.685
(round up to 750 cfm)

I’ve tried a lot of different carbs on my 512 street car. 4150 -850/950/& a 1050 AN. I’ve also ran numerous dominators on it. I’ve ran a few different single planes, Tm6, Indy single 4150, and also a six pack. I’ve ran the sick pack with factory vacuum carbs as well as DC mechanicals (which is the current set up). The 4500 carbs always run the strongest. Even on the TM6. And my car is 4000# with me. Hardly a race car. Also not all 850’s are created equal. An old style has a 1.56 Venturi. Some of these new 850 are only a 1.40 with the 950 being a 1.45. My 1050 AN is a 1.59. Keep in mind most 440’s run good with the 1.56 Venturi 850. So only makes sense the 500 cubes can handle more. Granted all my carbs are highly modified as I’m not a bolt it on out of the box kind of guy.

The math numbers are one thing, track or even street performance are another. I have used a 650 Holley off my tunnel ram, put it on the single 4 manifold and it worked great. Big cam, high RPM. I was shocked. But the size that works best for a given motor combination is not just an equation. Just my experience.

The equation is just for ballpark (a starting
point). Many things affect a carbs
performance on a given engine. But you
knew that, of course. I wouldn't rely on
that formula hoping everything will
perform to it's optimal.
