528 Hemi heading to the dyno soon

Getting close to finishing up this 528 Hemi in the Bowman Performance shop for a customer of ours that is going in his 67 Plymouth Belvedere. Plan is to run the 10.00 index in NSS, as well as the Hemi SS class at Mopar events. He should have enough power to exceed the 10.00 by a couple tenths so he can cover the index on these nasty hot summer days and work to slow it down on faster days. At least we sure are hoping he has enough power lol. We are currently waiting on Manton 7/16" pushrods which will be here in about a week, intake gaskets so we can pin fit the manifold and Tim can port it. After the manifold is ported, we have some small things to get done before we can put this on the dyno at Courson Racing Engines. Small things like mount the alternator to the motor plate, install crank trigger, weld bungs in the collectors for pan evacuation system, drill holes and install breathers in valve covers, mount fuel pressure regulator and run fuel lines. All small things that are enjoyable but take time to complete. Once the engine is ready, we will get it dyno'd, tuned, and race ready so we can give it to the customer ready to drop in and get after it.

I forget the exact numbers, I remember the low numbers were solid and how quickly they gained. The peak number was only 365cfm @ 28" and it stayed there from .600 lift through .750 lift. We didn't flow the exhaust. We were trying to get more stuff done and only did the intake to see what they would produce as far as stability, turbulence, low numbers, etc.
They didn't flow terrible, they were pretty stable which was a good sign. They also did not get worked over very hard on the hand porting because we are only trying to go 10.00 with this combo. In addition to that, we wanted to leave room for improvement in the future.

Just based off wallace racing calculator, to get a 9.80 et at 3600 lbs, we need roughly 750 flywheel HP. I think that is more than achievable given this combo, but hey, we will see soon enough.

thats alot less than the advertised 430 @ .800

Did you prime it yet? I found those shaft supports/ hold downs to leak like a sieve. Not to mention the oil feed hole is blocked by the shaft supports as well.

Didn’t prime it yet Doug. Waiting on pushrods to do that. The stands and shafts are Stanke, which are pretty high quality. We put .040 restrictors in the stands that feed the rocker system to help slow down the top end flooding. And I’m sure you saw in the photos the drain back lines we put in to help get oil back down to the sump.

I’ll let you know when we prime it what we come up with.

Will do! I’m very excited to get the dyno experience. This will be the 2nd engine I have the privilege of getting on the dyno with my mentor. It’s a great Learning experience as well as just being cool to see an engine run before it’s in the car. I’ve learned how to tune cars at the track as most racers do, but to read dyno numbers such as BSFC, A/F, VE, BSAC, and make changes accordingly, that is something that I find great interest in.
 
indy super street hemi, 764HP from indy SR Non ported heads with a .650 roller and dual plane intake. i'd say there's more in it. yours should easily hit your goal.

Thanks! That’s sure what I’m hoping. I just try to be realistic. And since we haven’t built any engine combo like this yet, with this cylinder head, cam, intake combo. I just try to look at other similar combos and say “ok if we make this much power we will be good”

Yeah i had a link to a thread on moparts i believe that they were talking about head flows, intakes etc, and this 1 guy had the same results from his set of indy SR heads that were CNC ported like yours and mine and had the same results as you, No where near what indy claims But in the process of trying differant intakes he went from appx 780HP with a single carb to 853 with an old weiand tunnel ram. But also they were saying to get the cam lift up in the .750 range like this guys was, mines .720 crane roller with a ported barton crossram.....

I think I may have came across that thread on moparts as well. It sounds familiar. And ya no doubt a bigger camshaft with a more aggressive intake would put out more power with this combo. This is one of the very few engines we have built where we were trying to limit power because the customer only wants to run 10.00 index in NSS and not put full cage in the car.

Hopefully the next Hemi customer we get will want us to build a more powerful combo similar to my dad’s. Sadly his car doesn’t fit the Hemi class at mopar events or NSS so he never gets to see what the car would run in the 1/4 mile. Even though we know it’s capable of going into the 8s. But hey that’s life, right. Just happy to be racing.
 
Your Dads Road Runner should fit except a dominator carb? Stock front suspension, correct?
