They are a little bit different. I've heard of guys useing them on opposite ends but the attachment pins might be different along with the curve where they make contact. The hood letters are only .030 taller than the trunk but are the same width and lenth. I've never taken them off and tried to swap front to back.
Hood letters, two attachment pins.
Trunk letters, two pins, only one is used as an attachment pin.
Hood and trunk are two pin but they only use the one pin on the trunk letters for attaching. Other pin is for the alignment. I'm not sure about the orientation of the pins either.
Your first pic is a newer year letter. The second picture, the "D" has a taper to it, not square like the '62. Maybe I'll try to remove mine and compare.
No worries Kid. Don't go to the trouble. I'm gonna pass on these. As you said, the orientation is not a sure bet. I'm in no hurry and I know they are rare. I'll keep my eyes open.
I took them off. They are the same part number on the letter "D".
My hood actually measures taller, that's why I thought they were different, and only one pin showing in the trunk. I was wrong.
I didn't think there was any difference in them, front and back will interchange.
Put all mine in a box and put them back on didn't look no problem, can't tell a difference by sight.
