63 Fury brake question

On my 63 Fury above the hanging brake pedal is a push button switch that is apparently activated if the pedal were to be pulled all the way back. This switch is wired. Any help on the purpose of this switch.

If it's similar to this, it's your brake light switch.

Brake light switch. Activated as brake pedal arm moves away from it.
 
It's adjustable, so make sure your brake lights activate when depressing the brake pedal.....
 
How many of you have the red brake light on the dash below the brake release?

I think that's what it is. I never saw it before until a friend pointed it out on a parts car.

No, it is not aftermarket, I don't have a pic, and not all cars got it, no idea why.
