Look up the 2 builds and see what and how I did it . I moved the k member in the 65 build and I used a pinto cross member and used narrowed upper and lower arms on it. A pinto set up type steering is one of the best set up for street rods.
Bill how is the handling with the straight axel? I used to jack my cars up in the 60's to look like the AFX cars, they were all over the place and would go thru a set of tires quickly. I never tried the axel up front .
Very good but the parallel parking suffered a bit !!! But it the truth is it would go straight as an arrow and at wide open throttle the back of the car would lift about 3 inches and level out .The the SS springs were effective and simple old school tricks go a long ways and I think people forget about that , the old timers had lots of tricks and traction was a big issue back then . I was running the guts out of my AWB car it was consistent and very fun to race it wasn't fast by today's standards But boy it was a good Time!!!
Bill I worry about parallel parking to, when I moved the top clam shells forward I I placed them at 9 1/2 forward to get more caster to make the car go straight without darting everywhere when you get up some speed. The first serous car I built was a 1972 Colt. Pro street was hot at the time plus blowers. So why not build one with both, 6/71 440 with 32x15 Mickey Thompson tires, you sat almost in the back seat , you could put your foot on the front wheel tub and reach over and pat the rear tub with your hand. Mostly for the street but I did run it one time, 1/8 mile 7 flat at 100 mph . Would go straight from a stop and leave tracks but if you hit it in third gear at about 35 miles an hour it would try any swap ends real quick . It's now in the Crawford Auto Museum .
Went to Person County drag strip in 1967, Billy West was in a wheel stand contest with a 55 chevy with the motor set in the front seat. He would stand the car up and walk it down the strip real slow and set it down. At the time they used a flag man to run the races. His name was Red and he got in the car with Billy and held on for dear life , when he got out he was choaking the fumes in the car , when I asked how he could get the car up and run slowly up he told me that they put 3 pieces of railroad steel track in the trunk .
